2007 Michigan State Spartans Picks & Predictions
After a couple of bowl less seasons in 2004-2005, coach John Smith was already on the hot seat in East Lansing, but a 1-8 end to last season sparked by that collapse against Notre Dame and a single Big Ten victory, meant the end for Smith. He’s out, replaced by former Spartan assistant Mark Dantonio, who was doing a pretty good job as the head coach at Cincinnati. MSU returns six starters on both sides of the ball for their new coach, including a solid threesome of RBs and four offensive linemen. They lost their top three receivers and QB Drew Stanton, but he never took them to a bowl game, anyway. Dantonio like to run the ball, and he’s got some weapons to work with, But the defense needs a serious upgrade, and Michigan State faces a tough road slat. Barring a surprise, the Spartans won’t break that bowl less streak this season.
