2007 NFC North Football Picks & Predictions
Chicago Bears – NFC North Football Predictions - Click Here for NFL Betting at BodogLife
The NFC representative in last year’s Super Bowl is back and should be even stronger. The defense lost Tank Johnson but acquired Darwin Walker and Adam Archuleta. Combined with the return of veteran safety Mike Brown, the Bears defense should remain just as strong. On offense, the Bears have surrounded maligned quarterback Rex Grossman with some weapons. There are many more playmakers and much more speed to go around. The Bears upgraded at tight end with deep threat Greg Olsen, Devin Hester and Garrett Wolfe. Expect Grossman to play significantly better this year; after all last season was his first full year as a starter.
Detroit Lions – NFC North Football Predictions
Jon Kitna boldly proclaimed that the Lions would win 10 games – which still won’t be enough to win the division. The Lions have a very underrated coaching staff with Mike Martz running the offense and Rod Marinelli running the defense (and team). The cover-two defense that they play is very dependent on the front four, which has been vastly upgraded. The defense should be better even if by default alone. They can’t be much worse than last season. An already stellar offense has also got some enhancements. Calvin Johnson, who could have been the top draft pick in the 2007 Draft, will help a gifted corps of wideouts. The running back situation, which was dicey last year after Kevin Jones suffered a foot injury, now has Tatum Bell and T.J. Duckett for depth. Don’t be surprised to see this team with 8-10 wins.
Green Bay Packers – NFC North Football Predictions
While many people are giving the Lions sleeper status, don’t sleep on the Packers. They aren’t great in any one area of their club, but they are very good virtually everywhere. The offense won’t miss Ahman Green too much with Vernand Morency and second-round pick Brandon Jackson offering up younger, fresher, more explosive legs. Brett Favre isn’t overmatched as he was two years ago and although he is aging, he’ll have adequate help everywhere around him. Expect the Packers home field advantage to come back. Their once-daunting Lambeau Field has been pillaged by visitors in the past two seasons but expect the Packers to have a winning record at home for the first time in three years.
Minnesota Vikings – NFC North Football Predictions
Every division needs to have a whipping boy and this year’s piñata in the NFC North is the Vikings. With an inexperienced quarterback, sophomore Tarvaris Jackson and a number of unproven receivers, the Vikings will have to use this season to build up their offense. They are strong on both lines of scrimmages, which means the Vikings won’t be a pushover opponent unless they turnover the ball consistently. Brad Childress’ team may not make a lot of progress in his second season, which is why I’m making the early call that he will enter 2008 as one of the coaches on the hot seat.
