2007 West Virginia Mountaineers: Picks, Predictions & Odds
2007 West Virginia Mountaineers Picks & Predictions
The Mountaineers had to fen off a lucrative offer from Alabama to lure head coach Rich Rodriquez away. Fortunately for them, Rodriguez said “no thanks” to the Crimson Tide’s green. WV is 50-24 in six seasons under Rodriguez, 21-3 over the last two years. And this year, Rodriguez isn’t the only one coming back for another run. The Mountaineers return 16 starters from last season, eight on each side of the ball, including the very dangerous offensive threesome of QB Patrick White, RB Steve Slaton, and WR/KR Darius Reynaud. White and Slaton, both juniors, combined to rush for nearly 3,000 yards last season to help WV rank second in all of 1-A in rushing. WV lost a couple of good ones from the offensive line in Rimington Trophy winning center Dan Mozes and All Big East guard Jeremy Sheffey. And they’ll have to replace two thirds of their linebacking corps, and shore up the defesive backfield. But the Mountaineers are a Top 10 team, and a threat to run the table.
