The Western Carolina Catamounts may be having a down year, but we simply do not feel that the NC-Greensboro Spartans have done enough to merit road favoritism here.
After all, the Spartans have a losing 6-8 straight up record away from home, with a losing 6-7-1 record against the spread. Also, it is not as if they are entering this game in peak form, as they have lost five of their last six games SU and they are on a three-game road losing streak.
The Catamounts may be just 8-17 overall, but they are a respectable 6-6 SU at home, and more importantly, they are a very nice 4-1 ATS in their last five games. The last time they played at home, they upset Chattanooga, and Western Carolina is a perfect 4-0 ATS the last four time they have been cast in this underdog role.
Finally, the home team is 7-3 ATS in the last 10 head-to-head meetings between these schools, and each team’s current form suggests that that trend should continue here.

South Alabama +6.5 (-110)

The (21-5) South Alabama Jaguars and (21-5) Western Kentucky Hilltoppers are set to duke it out tonight in a crucial game within the East Division of the Sun Belt Conference. The Hilltoppers currently hold the top spot within the East Division with a half game lead over the Jaguars. South Alabama is a combined 7-5 SU and 6-3 ATS in its road/neutral venue contests this season, while the Hilltoppers come in a perfect 12-0 SU and 5-4 ATS at home.
These clubs met earlier this season in Mobile in a game that saw the Jaguars knock off the Hilltoppers 65-61 as 3.5-point home favorites. The combined 126 points fell 18-point below the posted ‘Total’ of 144, and it was the third straight time these teams played in lower than expected contests. It was also the Jaguars second straight win over the Hilltoppers, and each club has secured 5 wins against one another in the L/10 meetings.
We last saw the Jaguars in action on Saturday when they upended the Florida Atlantic Owls by a 91-74 final count barely covering the 15-point spread. The victory was their 9th in their L/10 games, and they’ve split their last four road games both SU and ATS.
Western Kentucky comes into tonight’s contest winners of 11 in a row, but they’ve only brought their backers home six spread winners during that stretch. They’ve also struggled ATS at home of late only cashing in 3 of their L/7 overall.
There will be an NCAA Tournament feel for this game with so much on the line, and the winner just might be able to secure themselves an at large bid to the dance if indeed they fail to win the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The home team is 8-3 ATS the L/11 meetings between these fierce rivals, but the underdog has also cashed in 5 of the L/7 making it hard to pick a side based on trends. However, the Hilltoppers have failed to impress ATS at home this season, while the Jaguars are a perfect 8-0 ATS the L/8 times they’ve been installed a road underdog.
