Washington Huskies: 4-9, 2-7 in 2007, last in Pac-10
Year in and year out the Huskies play one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country, playing Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Boise State, Ohio State, and Hawaii all in the past three seasons. However, this has not led the Huskies to getting over the hump and they’ve had four consecutive losing seasons, three of them under HC Tyrone Willingham. The Huskies were able to beat #22 Boise State last season 24-10, but aside from that, struggled mightily throughout 2007.

Offensive Outlook: Jake Locker burst onto the scene last year and drew comparisons to Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow with his impressive dual threat ability. Locker racked up 3048 total yards and 27 total touchdowns in an exhilarating freshman season. However, Locker loses virtually all of his skill position help from 2007 as RB Louis Rankin (1294 yards and six touchdowns) has graduated as well as almost all of his WR corps. In fact, only two players on the 2008 team even caught a pass last season, so this group is extremely inexperienced.

Defensive Outlook: Last season, the Huskies allowed on average a decade worst 31.6 PPG. E.J. Savannah, the team’s leading tackler in 2007, was supposed to help remedy the lackluster defense but has been ruled academically ineligible for 2008 and his loss really hurts the Huskies. The rush defense was especially porous last season, allowing an average of 184 yards on the ground per game. These numbers might get worse as three of the four defensive line starters from 2007 have moved on and their projected replacements are underclassmen.

2008 Outlook: Once again, the Huskies out of conference schedule does them no favors as they face BYU, Oklahoma, and Notre Dame at home. An early road test at Oregon will show what the Huskies are made of after Oregon gashed them for 465 yards rushing in their meeting last season.

2008 will be a success if… The Huskies can somehow find a way to get six wins for bowl eligibility and have a chance at a winning season It might be the only way that Willingham keeps his job after three consecutive losing seasons.

Prediction: 4-8, 8th place in Pac-10
