Pacific Tigers vs. UC Davis Aggies
Free Pick: UC Davis +8.5 (-110) – Wed Feb 25 ’09 10:00p
Visit Touthouse.com for more NCAA basketball betting picks

This rather big spread between the Pacific Tigers and the UC Davis Aggies seems based more on reputation than reality, as these teams are not really separated by all that much statistically to warrant this line.

Sure, the Aggies are the new kids on the block in just their second season in Division I, while the Tiger are perennial kingpins in the Big West. However, Pacific is having a down year at just 13-11 straight up overall (10-11-1 against the spread), and while UC Davis is just 12-15 SU, they have a superior ATS record (14-9, 60.9 percent) and these teams are tied in the Big West standings at 7-6.

The Aggies have already proven that they can score on anyone, and they have been especially on target the last four games, averaging 81.3 points per game during this stretch. This team ranks number 23 in the country in effective field goal percentage at 53.8 percent, as UC Davis is hitting on 52.5 percent of their two-point attempts and 37.3 percent of their threes. Furthermore, the Aggies rank second in free throw percentage at 79.5 percent, which would certainly help in a close game.

Pacific has lost two straight games straight up and three straight games ATS, and they have been only decent at home this season, going 7-4 SU with an average winning margin of +4.8 points, not nearly good enough to cover this number. Also, unlike UC Davis, the Tigers struggle at the free throw line at just 66.8 percent, which should make it difficult for them to pull away late.

Finally, there is a little matter of revenge for the Aggies after Pacific went into Davis and thumped them 80-65 last month. Look for an inspired effort by UC Davis here with an outright upset not out of the question.

Marquette vs. Connecticut: College Basketball Betting Picks & Odds: February 25th 2009

Marquette vs. Connecticut
Free Betting Pick: Marquette -1.0 (-110)
College Basketball Picks: Wed February 25th 2009 7:00p

This already promised to be one of the biggest games in the Big East this season. Now with Pitt’s shocking loss to Providence on Tuesday, the Marquette and U-Conn game could decide the regular season champion.

There are plenty of arguments to be made on behalf of both teams. The Huskies are the only unbeaten team in the nation at 12-0. They’re 7-0 SU in Big East roadies and 5-2 ATS. Under Jim Calhoun’s tutelage, U-Conn has won 12 of its last 14 games against ranked teams.

On the flip side, Marquette has won 17 in a row at home but are a mediocre 5-5-1 ATS. In fact both teams have struggled against the number lately, with each going 1-4 ATS.
Connecticut has the advantage inside with Hasheem Thabeet at center. He’s blocked 118 shots and will be a nightmare for the Warriors to deal with.

The back court advantage firmly lies with Marquette which has got three guards that could decide the game from the perimeter.

With this game basically a “pick”, I’m going to side with the Warriors in large part because of their three-headed guard attack. Should Marquette win, this will be the second consecutive week that the top three teams in the AP poll will have lost. It would also be the Huskies first road loss of the season.

I love “firsts” and in this case I really like the Warriors chances.

NBA Betting Picks: Charlotte Bobcats vs. Sacramento Kings: February 25th 2009

Free Pick: Charlotte Bobcats vs. Sacramento Kings o200.0
NBA Betting Picks: Wednesday February 25th ’09 10:05p

The Charlotte Bobcats have not won on the road in a month, thanks to the lowest scoring offense in the league , but will be primed to tear up the score board in this spot, vs a Sacramento team with the worst record in the NBA. The Kings main problems can be attributed to an atrocious defense, that has allowed 19 of their L20 opponents to pound them for 100 points or more for a 115.9 PPG average during that span. The Kings only saving grace this season, has been an offense that has been able to average 101+ PPG on their own home floor at Arco, which has contributed to both themselves and their opponents combining to put 208.9 PPG on the score board.

With that said, look for Charlotte to come out here with all guns blazing , as they attempt to break out of their current road funk, and for Sacramento to reciprocate with some offensive fireworks of their own, in a contest I am betting will eclipse the number. It must be noted that these teams have gone Over in 5 of their last 6 meetings.

Los Angeles Lakers @ Oklahoma City Thunder o222.5 – Tue Feb 24 ’09 8:05p
This will be another Lakers win. The mystery lies in the final score which should be a doozy given the offensive and defensive numbers presented to us tonight. The Lakers are 34-21-1 to the over this season. On the road they’ve got a 15-10-1 mark to the high side. In the 223-228 totals range, Kobe and company are 2-0 in the past ten games. There’s no wonder given that the Lake Show is averaging nearly 109 points per game. Their opponent tonight, the Oklahoma City Thunder, is allowing over 104 points per game. The Lakers are 10-1-1 to the OVER in their last 12 road games and have topped the total to the tune of 7-2-1 in their last ten games in the role of the favorite. When the Lakers take a night off defensively it usually makes the under a very solid value. LA can’t keep up the intensity every night, especially playing against a team like the Thunder. They showed signs of a letdown against Minnesota on Sunday and the same thing could happen tonight. Coming off their mediocre performance against Minnesota, I expect a better effort tonight from Phil Jackson’s club. I also think the Kobe and Kevin Durant showdown could produce more than a few points as well. – Courtesy of Bob Harvey

Oklahoma City Thunder +8.5 (-110) – Tue Feb 24 ’09 8:05p
We have been praising the Oklahoma City Thunder as money-making machines for most of this season, especially at home, and we feel that they will pass the acid test on Tuesday by staying inside the number vs. the team with the best record in basketball, the Los Angeles Lakers. Now the Thunder will have the obvious emotional edge here, as they would love to knock off the Lakers in front of their home fans while the Lakers will in all likelihood take Oklahoma City lightly. However, is that enough for a team with a 13-43 record to give the Lakers a hard time? Well, the Thunder may not be having much success on the court, but their supporters have not minded one bit as Oklahoma City has the third best record in the NBA against the spread at 34-21-1, 61.8 percent. Furthermore, that does not tell the whole story as they have been a virtual ATM machine at home lately, going an unbelievable 14-2 ATS (9-7 straight up) in their last 16 home games! Moreover, one of those two ATS losses was a straight up win over the Sacramento Kings in a rare favorite role. They are winning their home contests during this 16-game stretch by an average of +3.2 points. Now the Lakers are obviously a dangerous club, but that is no secret as they are usually overvalued by the oddsmakers. As a result, Showtime is a modest 29-27 ATS this season despite owning a scintillating 46-10 SU record. The Lakers are also winning their road games by an average of +6.9 points per game, which would not be good enough to cover this spot. Finally, remember that the Thunder only lost to the Lakers by seven points in Los Angeles two weeks ago, and we look for the red-hot Kevin Durant to keep Oklahoma City in this game right until the finish once again. College Basketball Betting: Creighton vs. Missouri State: February 24th 2009

Creighton vs. Missouri State – February 24, 2009 8:05PM
Free Pick: Missouri State
Visit Touthouse.com for more college basketball betting picks

Early reports from offshore contacts indicate that Creighton will be one of today’s most popular bets. In this case, I believe that the joe public bettors are off base and that the current line provides solid value with the home underdog.

While Missouri State has only won three of its last six home games, the three losses all came by single-digits.

Its true that the Bears were blown out at Creighton. However, the Bears have won three of the last five series meetings at Missouri State and the two losses were by just five combined points. With the revenge-minded Bears gaining some confidence from a momentum-building win, look for this evening’s game to also come down to the wire. Consider taking the points.

NCAA College Basketball Top 25 Rankings: Updated February 24th 2009

NCAA College Basketball Top 25 Power Rankings Courtesy of Alex Smart, An Award-Winning Professional Basketball Handicapper Featured on Touthouse.com. If you are Betting on College Basketball this Season be Sure to Buy Alex’s Expert NCAA Basketball Predictions – Rankings updated on February 24th, 2009.

1.Pittsburgh- The Panthers after a convincing 80-61 win vs DePaul have now solidified their standing as this weeks top team. DeJuan Blair remains the catalyst behind this program going forward. Blair dominated future NBA lottery pick HasheemThabeet in their head-to-head meeting Feb. 16, finishing with 22 points and 23 rebounds.

2.Oklahoma -Oklahoma not only lost to Texas this past weekend, ending a 13 game winning streak, but are now without what is arguably College Hoops top player , Blake Griffin, after he suffered a concussion in the above mentioned loss. The NBA possible first pick overall , is a uncertain health concern going forward.

3.North Carolina – The Tar Heels in their last trip to the hardwod, fell asleep at the wheel and blew a 16 point lead vs Maryland, eventually losing a 88-85 heartbreaker. HC Roy Willaims has some troubling trends to deal with going forward as his team has struggled from the field in its last two away tilts. The Tar Heels shot only 37.7 percent (29-of-77) at Maryland after shooting just 38.8 percent (26-of-67) at Miami six days earlier.

4.Duke -The Blue Devils came out on Sunday with all guns blazing, holding on to a 101-91 win vs Wake Forest. Defense is the main stay behind HC K’s team, but the offense is proving to be one of the most dangerous in the ACC and the nation.

5 Connecticut – With Jerome Dyson out for the season, some concerns are beginning to arrise for the Huskies . His replacement Craig Austrie is averaging just 6 points per game, on a lowly 27% conversion rate from the field.

6.Michigan State -The Spartans get the job done, but it never seems very pretty. There is a great deal of depth here , and despite of some recent injuries a Big 10 Championship is looking more and more like a strong possibility.

7. Memphis – John Calapari and company went into a tough venue at UTEP, and came out with an impressive 70-63 win that extended the nations longest winning streak to 18 games . This young but very talented Tigers team is starting to jell. Not a good omen for their future NCAA tournament competition.

8.Clemson – The Tigers took out Gerogia Tech Sunday, for a sweep of the season series. HC Trevor Booker thinks his team can still grab a ACC championship. If North Carolina, does not stay focused that is a very distinct possibilty.

9. Villanova – The Wildcats were lucky to get past Syracuse last time out, by a score , 89-86 , but low behold they did, despite of turning the ball over 3 times in the last 3 ½ minutes. With four games left , HC Jay Wrights team look like they will secure a top 4 seed spot in the compettive big East, behind viable conference all stars Dante Cunningham and Scotte Reynolds.

10. Kansas -The Jayahwks took out Nebraska by a 70-53 count in their last trip the hardwood, for their 13 straight lucky win in this series. Sherron Collins super star exploits remain one of reasons why this young team hurdles toward a Big 12 championship.

11. Utah -The Utes despite of consistent slow starts, have proven to be explosive in the 2nd half of some recent outings. Utah has been behind at the half in 4 of their L/5 games, and ahead by just one point in the other and have found ways to ramp up the tempo for wins. Teams like the Utes , who have a capable enough coaching staff to make 2nd half adjustments, are extremely dangerous adversairies. Moutain West teams beware, Utes on the rise.

12.Louisville-The Cardinal looked good in a recent 72-63 road victory vs Cincinnati, which is a positive bost for their overall physcological well being after being embarrassed at Notre Dame in their last game by 33 point losing defcecit. Coach Rick Pitino was very happy with the bounce back. Quote: We made some excellent passes. We executed great against their fullcourt pressure. We just played a terrific game.”

13.West Virginia- The Moutaineers pounded Rutgers by a 74-56 count last time out. West Virgina continued its upward momentum in the these power polls, and in the Big East standing moving in to 6th place on the back of a 3 game winning streak.

14.Xavier -George Wsahington were whipped by the best mid major team in the nation by a lopsided 71-53 count. I know the Muskies , after a 8-0 start have lost 3 of their previous 4 games (all on the road). But even the best teams go into a funk, just ask North Carolina. Look for Xavier to surge going forward.

15.Missouri -The Tigers took out Colorado by a score of 66-53 last time out for their 6th straight win. The victory pretty well ensures Missouri with their first NCAA tournament birth since the 2003 season, HC Mike Anderson in his third year is quickly making former head man Quin Snyder a distant memory to campus faithful.

16.Illinois – The Illini were on the wrong end of a 70-68 loss vs Ohio State in their last tilt, which folowed up a ugly 33 point offensive output in their previous contest. Illinois will get tested this week in a big way vs Minnesota and Big 10 leader Michigan State .

17.Florida State-Toney Douglas scored 24 points and put down the game winner with 6 seconds remaining to beat Virginia Tech 67-65 on the road this past Saturday. Five wins in their L/6 outings has the Seminoles, looking like viable opponents against all comers, and are now close to being a lock for their first NCAA tournament apperance in 11 seasons.

18.Wake Forest – Wake Forest remains one of the most explosive offensive teams in college basketball, with the added advantage of owning a solid defense. I know they were blasted on Sunday by Duke in a 101-91 debacle, but previous to that effort, were still capable defenders allowing 37.9% shooting and 39.8% in conference action. Look for this group to rebound defensively going forward.

19.Washington -The Huskies took out the USC Trojans in PAC 10 play , in their last effort. Venoy Overton taunted the Trojan faithfull throughout the game, making him the most hated player to visit thisSouthern California venue. Now Overton will try to make himself one of the most loved players in Husky land by continuing to play top tier basketball. Conference opponents, the Bears and Bruins lost this past weekend, which makes a conference championship game a strong possibilty for Washington U.

20.Butler – The Bulldogs showed they are a under rated team that must be feared when they took out Stehpen Curry and Davidson by a DD margin this past weekend. The Horizon Leagues top team continues its quest for an upset NCAA tournament run.

21.Marquette – With four games left on the season, the Golden Eagles current status will be tested in a big way,as those above metioned contests feature 3 games against top 10 ranked teams . Im watching intently.

22.Purdue – The Boilermakers lost their first two games of conference play, but are now in top form , as they sit in second place behind Michigan State. With Robbie Hummel on the court and healthy, this team has the tools to excell. Honarable note must also be made in favor, of Sophomore center JaJuan Johnson who averaged 17.5 points during the Boilermakers’ L/6 games and has three double-doubles in the past five games.

23.Syracuse- The Orange looked a little lost at the end of their most recent trip to the hardwood, losing a 89-86 heartbreaker vs Villanova, that they had every chance to win. Are they going to the Big dance. I say, yes, many others would disagree after losing 5 straight to ranked opponents.

24. Tennessee – HC Bruce Pearl was very upset by his teams recent loss to Kentucky, as he was quoted as saying. I have never been so embarrassed by how I coached, or how my team played. Will his players respond. The talent is there , and time will tell.

25.Arizona State – The Sun Devils beat, their instate and PAC 10 rivals the Arizona Wildcats, by a 70-68 count in their last meeting, which vaulted them one step closer to a NCAA tournament appearance.

San Jose Sharks vs. Dallas Stars

The San Jose Sharks one of the NHLs top teams, travels out to Texas to play the Dallas Stars this Monday night in a Western Conference tilt that offers up value on backing the home team on the moneyline. The Sharks in a recent 5 game road trip showed negative results with a 1-1-3 mark , and despite of already having beaten the Stars three times this season, are vulnerable vs a revenge minded team that is 9-2-1 in their L/12 games in the American Airlines Center.

Final notes & Key Trends: San Jose is 0-4 in their L/4 as road chalk. The Stars are 4-1 L/5 as an underdog of +110 to +150.
