The NY Islanders enter this game against the suddenly inconsistent Boston Bruins as one of most talented young teams in the NHL . They may not always perform with optimum efficiency because of their inexperience, but are still a very viable underdog pick, even against what many pundits perceive to be vastly superior opposition.

The Islanders are 5-1-1 in their L/7 and 11-8-3 since Jan 21 almost exclusively in the dog role, which in turn has bolstered their betting backers bankrolls in a big way . I know the Isles road record is dismal to say the least as is evident by a 1-19-1 L/22 record , but as this very under rated team continues to gell under HC Scott Gordons system, they will become a lot more dangerous, and cohesive away from the Nassau County Coliseum.

The Boston Bruins are 2-4-1 in their L/7 and only have 5 regulation wins in their L/16 games, thanks to major offensive and defensive lapses during that span. Thats not a good omen for the Bruins against a hungry team that they may be overlooking.

With that said, Im willing to recommend a minimal wager on future NHL star Kyle Okposo and his NY Isles in what will be a nice moneyline pay day. It must also be noted that the Bruins have lost 4 straight vs Atlantic division oppostion, and one more L, may come as surprise to some, but not me.

Play on the Islanders(moneyline)

College Basketball Picks: Michigan State vs. Ohio State Betting Odds: March 14th 2009

While we are not fans of the Big Ten this season, we do feel that the Michigan State Spartans are head-and-shoulders above the rest of the conference, and we look for them to prove it with a handy win over the Ohio State Buckeyes today.

The Spartans are now 26-5 this season, but they still have a lot to play for here. If they win the Big Ten Conference Tournament, they should be assured of no worse than a two seed in the NCAA Tournament, whereas if they lose today, they may be in serious danger of dropping to a three seed.

Michigan State is winning with great defense this season, allowing 62.3 points per game on 41.1 percent shooting. This is not to say that they cannot score though, as they are actually one of the highest scoring teams in the normally plodding Big Ten at 72.0 points per game, giving them a nice average margin of victory of +9.7 points overall, including +6.9 points on the road.

On the other hand, while Ohio State is now 21-9 themselves, they have a losing 4-6 record on the road where they are getting outscored by -4.3 points per contest. Also, Michigan State swept the two regular season meetings between these clubs by 11 and nine points respectively, and the Spartans are now 4-1 straight up in the last five head-to-head meetings.

We do feel that Ohio State probably earned an NCAA Tournament berth with their win over Wisconsin yesterday, as a 21-10 mark with a loss today should still be good enough. So with seemingly more to play for, look for Michigan State to win by double-digits.

Michigan is 20-12 this year while Illinois comes in at 23-8 on the season. Illinois is allowing only 56.5 points per game overall this year. The Illinois defense should step it up tonight and will be a key to winning. Illinois is 16-5 SU overall vs Michigan since 1997. Wolverines are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 neutral site games as an underdog. Wolverines are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 Friday games. Wolverines are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games after allowing less than 50 points in their previous game. Fighting Illini are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 neutral site games as a favorite. Fighting Illini are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 neutral site games. Fighting Illini are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following a SU loss. Fighting Illini are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games following a ATS loss. Fighting Illini are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Friday games. Favorite is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings. We’ll recommend a small play on Illinois tonight! Thanks and good luck, Rocky

The Baylor Bears are flying sky high after upsetting Kansas yesterday, but we feel the clock will strike midnight for Cinderella when they face a Texas Longhorns team tonight that has simply dominated them.

Besides, what made the upset yesterday even more shocking is the way that Baylor finished the season. After showing so much promise early in the year, Baylor is now 3-11 against the spread in their last 14 games, and that includes the miracle vs. the Jayhawks. Their defense has been terrible on the road, allowing 78.3 points per game on a generous 46.5 percent shooting, and we do not feel they will simply be able to outscore this Texas team here.

The Longhorns swept the season series, but that is actually nothing new as they have now gone an unbelievable 20-0 straight up vs. Baylor since the 2000-2001 season. This was supposed to be the year that the Bears ended that streak, yet Texas routed them by 16 points at Austin, and perhaps more impressively, they went into Baylor and prevailed by six points.

We see absolutely no reason why the Longhorns should not win this third meeting by at least six points at a neutral site.

NBA Basketball Betting Picks: Memphis Grizzlies vs. Boston Celtics: March 13th 2009

Two teams the Memphis Grizzlies and the Boston Celtics are two sides that are at the opposite end of the performance and talent spectrum . The Celtics (49-16) after a hot run that saw them notch wins in 15 of 17 games, have looked a little wobbly of late, since their veteran star Kevin Garnett went down with a knee injury at Utah on February 19. The defending league champs have also been struggling with an array of nagging injuries to a lot of their bench and are off a 107-99 loss in South Florida to the Miami Heat last time out. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies looked horrendous in their last outing, vs a another injury riddled team , the Minnesota Wolves, losing by a lopsided 104-79 count. When looking at these two opponents, its pretty obvious on paper who is the superior team. But like the old saying goes, games are not played on paper , but on the hardwood. With that said, it must be noted that no professional team likes to be embarrassed, even a young team like the Grizzlies. With a chance of redmeption look for the men from Memphis to come out here and play this contest, like it was a championship game. Their superior opponents , short staffed and uninterested could find this contest a lot tougher than they would like.

It must be noted the Grizzlies are 11-0 ATS L/11 away vs the Boston Celtics and are 15-1-1 ATS overall in their L/17 getting points in this series.

Close your eyes plug your nose and just pull the trigger !

NBA Basketball Betting: Orlando Magic vs. Washington Wizards Odds: March 13th 2009

Orlando Magic vs. Washington Wizards

Washington is fairly typical of most last place teams at this time of the year. When the Wizards have something that sparks them – like Barack Obama’s visit to the Verizon Center – they are capable of stepping up, bringing energy, and playing a good game. That’s exactly how they beat the Bulls by 23 in that contest. But without some sort of obvious spark, interim head coach Ed Tapscott has no way to motivate his squad, as evidenced by Washington’s other recent home games: a 31 point loss to San Antonio, an eleven point loss to New Orleans, an eight point loss to Philadelphia and a nine point loss to Atlanta that was garbage time throughout the fourth quarter.

There is virtually no home court edge for the Wizards these days, playing in front of a half empty arena – we’re talking about a team that is 10-23 SU, 12-21 ATS at home this year, with no signs of improvement. Washington’s defensive effort is atrocious; their ball movement stinks and they aren’t working hard on the boards – this is, for all practical purposes, a ‘dead’ team here in March. The Magic have won the previous three meetings with the Wizards by a combined 49 points. Expect Dwight Howard to dominate the paint and the Magic’s perimeter shooters will rain three’s whenever they want to against this level of defense. 2* Take Orlando.

Free Pick: Colorado State -1.5 – Wed Mar 11 ’09 5:00p
No.8 seed Colorado State (9-21) and No.9 seed Air Force (9-20) go head to head in the opening round of the Mountain West Tournament in Las Vegas this Wednesday afternoon. Air Force enters this tilt showcasing one of the most lethargic offenses in the entire nation and league, as is evident by averaging just 58 PPG on the season, and an even worse 53 PPG average away from home. There is absolutely no cohesiveness in the attack zone, which always puts them at a disadvantage, which in turn has resulted in a 4-12 ATS conference mark this season. The Falcons have lost all 16 of their league contests by an average of 13.5 PPG, and 14 straight games overall , and another L very much looks to be on the agenda in this spot. Colorado State despite of an equally ugly record, have dominated Air Force in both meetings this season, winning a 67-56 decision at home and a 71-66 marker on the road with the third win a row a very strong possibility vs a program that has never won a game in the MWC tournament. Free Pick: Texas A&M -6.5 (-110) – Wed Mar 11 ’09 9:20p
This game between the Texas A&M Aggies and the Texas Tech Red Raiders seems like a mismatch on paper, and with Texas A&M needing a couple of wins in this Big 12 Tournament to assure themselves an NCAA Tournament bid, we are anticipating an emphatic victory. The Aggies went 23-8 during the regular season, but they were a modest 9-7 in the conference, so they would be best served by advancing in this tourney to lock up a berth to the Big Dance. They certainly treated there supporters well this season, going 15-8 against the spread, including a sweep both straight up and ATS in two meetings with Texas Tech. The Aggies were also 9-4 ATS on the road, which will serve them well at this neutral site in Oklahoma City. On the other hand, the Red Raiders finished at just 13-18 overall and a woeful 3-13 inside the conference, and they burned a lot of money to the tune of a 9-14-1 ATS record. Perhaps worst of all for the Red Raiders here though is the fact that they finished 0-11 SU on the road while losing those contests by an average of -13.0 points per game. We do not expect them to suddenly become competitive away from home tonight vs. a team that has already beaten them twice this year. CBB Free Pick: Texas A&M -6.5 (-110) – Courtesy of LT Profits

Free Pick: UC Davis +2.0 (-110) – Wed Mar 11 ’09 9:00p
Both teams come in with identical 12-18 records this year. This is the first game in the first round of the Big West Conference Tournament. UC Davis is 9-1 SU and 8-1 ATS this year after allowing 80 points or more. UC Davis is 3-1 ATS in this series since 1997. UC Davis is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing more than 90 points in their previous game. UC Davis is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss. UC Davis is 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a losing SU record. UC Davis is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following a SU loss. We’ll recommend a small play on UC Davis tonight! – Courtesy of Rocketman Sports
