OVER 8.5 Philadelphia/Atlanta:
Sometimes I wonder if the linesmakers really look at a situation or simply make a line based on past performaces. This total looks way out of whack considering the path these two starters are on. To say Derek Lowe (7-6, 4.53) has been abysmal lately would be doing an injustice to the term abysmal. He’s allowed 16 runs on 26 hits in his last 11 2/3 innings pitched. I don’t know if he’s hurt, or just trying out some new things, but whatever it is, he needs to turn it around fast. He is 5-1 lifetime against the Phillies, so it should be good for his confidence facing them tonight. “Kentucky” Joe Blanton (4-4, 5.06) hasn’t been as bad as Lowe recently, however in two starts this season vs. Atlanta, he’s 0-1 and allowed 13 runs in 12 innings pitched. He last won a game on June 1 and would love to close out the month with a win tonight. This 8.5 total looks strange to me, it almost looks too easy.

Over 8 Colorado/Los Angeles:
Chad Billingsley (9-3, 3.10) has been one of the leading Cy Young candidates all season long for the Dodgers, but his last few outings have shown some signs of him tiring. He’s given up 8 runs in 12 innings during his last 2 starts, and rendered no decisions in each. I’m not saying he’s “done” or anything, I just think there’s good value in this total tonight. Jason Marquis (9-5, 4.22) is having a really nice season for the Rockies after being picked up from the Free Agent heap. Colorado has been playing some great Baseball and Marquis has been one of the keys to their resurgence of late. However, his last few starts have been suspect as well. Allowing 10 runs on 17 hits in just 12 innings of work. This total just doesn’t look right based on the last few efforts for each of these pitchers. Hit the over tonight.

2009 CFL Football Predictions – 2009 Odds to Win Grey Cup

2009 CFL PREDICTIONS - BETTING ODDS TO WIN GREY CUPSports handicapper Alex Smart provides predictions for the 2009 CFL football season along with current odds to win the Grey Cup. If you are betting on the Canadian Football League this season and need winning canadian football picks, be sure to visit Touthouse.com and purchase Alex Smart’s expert 2009 CFL football predictions.

Calgary Stampeders (13-5, 13-5 ATS in 2008, +200 odds to win Grey Cup) The defending champs bring back their entire offense that ranked 1st in the CFL a year ago and should be considered the primary threat to win it all again this season. QB Henry Burris leads the aerial assault, but RB Joffrey Reynolds may be the best in the league.
Prediction: 12-6, 1st place in Western Division

Edmonton Eskimos (10-8, 9-8-1 ATS in 2008, +225 odds to win Grey Cup) QB Ricky Ray had another fantastic year in ’08 to lead the Eskies to yet another postseason birth. With the addition of RB Jesse Lumsden from Hamilton, the offense could be as good as it has ever been as long as the former Ti-Cat can stay healthy.
Prediction: 11-7, 2nd place in Western Division

British Columbia Lions (10-8, 8-9-1 ATS in 2008, +550 odds to win Grey Cup) The Lions are perennially a team to beat, but this team is a shell of the one that has challenged for Grey Cups for the better part of the last decade. HC Wally Buono knows how to field a winner though, and with the QB stable of Buck Pierce and Jarious Jackson, the Leos won’t be out of any game they play this season.
Prediction, 9-9, 3rd place in Western Division

Saskatchewan Roughriders (12-6, 9-8-1 ATS in 2008, +950 odds to win Grey Cup) Last season, the Riders went through all sorts of injury problems at the QB position, but the team now belongs to Darian Durant. He’s still largely untested, leaving a lot of pressure on his shoulders with a young team surrounding him.
Prediction: 8-10, 4th place in Western Division

Montreal Alouettes (11-7, 10-8 ATS in 2008, +400 odds to win Grey Cup) Is there any reason to believe that the Als won’t be back in the Grey Cup again this season? They clearly have the best team in the East so long as QB Anthony Calvillo stays healthy. He was the MOP last year and nearly brought a team that no one thought was any good at the outset of the season to a Grey Cup title, and should be considered the favorite again this year.
Prediction: 13-5, 1st place in Eastern Division

Hamilton Tiger-Cats (3-15, 6-11-1 ATS in 2008, +1800 odds to win Grey Cup) For a team with a history rich in losing, this could be the year that the Ti-Cats turn the corner. QB Quinton Porter looks to be ready to lead the black and gold to some wins. There were a lot of changes on the defensive side of the ball to try to build around LB Zeke Moreno. This could be the first time since ’04 that the Tabbies make the playoffs.
Prediction: 8-10, 2nd place in Eastern Division

Toronto Argonauts (4-14, 6-10-2 ATS in 2008, +1400 odds to win Grey Cup) Last year, the Argos were the talk of the town after bringing in QB Kerry Joseph. At times, KJ looked fantastic, but for the majority of the season, the whole team was in shambles. Not a heck of a lot has changed though, which could make for a long season yet again for the Boatmen.
Prediction: 7-11, 3rd place in Eastern Division

Winnipeg Blue Bombers (8-10, 7-9-2 ATS in 2008, +1200 odds to win Grey Cup) Kevin Glenn, Charles Roberts, and Milt Stegall are all gone, and with it may go Winnipeg’s chances to win a Grey Cup any time soon. QB Stefan LeFors faces the daunting task of trying to rebuild the franchise this season.
Prediction: 4-14, 4th place in Eastern Division

MLB Betting: Chicago Cubs vs. Pittsburgh Pirates Odds & Picks: June 30th 2009

Chicago Cubs vs. Pittsburgh Pirates u8.5 (-115) – Tue June 30th 2009 7:05p
Visit Touthouse.com for current MLB betting odds and free baseball picks from LT Profits

Ted Lilly of the Chicago Cubs was roughed up by the Detroit Tigers in his last start, but we look for him to regain his form here vs. the lighter-hitting Pittsburgh Pirates, while Bucs starter Ross Ohlendorf has pitched well at home this season.

Even with that one rough outing. Lilly still has eight Quality Starts in his last 10 outings, and he is among the Major League leaders with his 11 Quality Starts this season out of 15 appearances. He also posted Quality Starts in his last two efforts vs. these Pirates last season, with the last one coming here in Pittsburgh where he was charged with three runs in seven innings of a 12-3 Cubs romp.

As for Ohlendorf, he has managed to go 4-2 with a 3.88 ERA and a good 1.23 WHIP here at home despite not having much of an offense behind him. He is actually in good current form regardless of the venue, as he now has three Quality Starts in his last four starts overall after limiting the Cleveland Indians to two runs on only five hits in seven innings in his last appearance on Wednesday.

Finally, both bullpens are performing well, with the Pittsburgh pen posting an excellent 3.41 ERA over the last 10 games and the Chicago bullpen not far behind at 3.67 over this same span. This should limit late tack-on runs, making this Under even safer.

MLB Free Betting Pick: Cubs, Pirates Under 8.5 (-115)

Baseball Betting: Yankees vs. Mariners Odds & Predictions: June 30th 2009

New York Yankees vs. Seattle Mariners
MLB Betting Pick: Seattle Mariners (-110) – Tue June 30th 2009 7:05p
Visit Touthouse.com for current MLB odds and more baseball betting predictions from Bob Harvey

The Yankees are rolling. They’ve won five straight overall and look to extend their current streak while hoping to maintain their dominance of the Seattle Mariners. The Yanks have been crushing the baseball against the Mariners hitting .348 while averaging 9.0 runs during an eight-game winning streak at home versus Seattle. This will be the teams’ first meeting at the new Yankee Stadium aka Coors Field of the East.

New York has also dominated the Mariners on the mound during this streak. The Yankees have posted a 2.75 ERA in their last eight meetings and with Joba Chamberlain on the hill the Bronx Bombers are hopeful of another strong performance. This will be Joba’s first career appearance against Seattle.
The Mariners will counter with reliever turned starter Brendan Morrow who is 0-3 this season and will be making his fourth start following 16 relief appearances. His ERA is an astronomical 5.64

It’s doubtful that Seattle’s woeful offense will be able to take advantage of the new Yankee Stadium launching pad. The Mariners rank 29th in runs scored and 20th in homeruns. Seattle is middle of the pack with a .260 team batting average and their lack of punch is evident in a 44-29-2 record to the UNDER.

And while the Yanks rank in the top three in all of baseball in homeruns, runs per game and OPG, it usually takes some help from the other side to cash the OVER. The Yankees are just 6-4 to the UNDER in their last ten outings.

2009 Conference USA College Football Predictions – 2009 Odds to Win CUSA

2009 CONFERENCE USA PREDICTIONS ODDS TO WIN CUSA2009 Conference USA College Football Predictions

Southern Mississippi: The schedule is pretty tough as they open with Alcorn State, UCF and Virginia at home and then takes on Kansas on the road. They also face Louisville on the road in mid-October. The East divsion may be decided when they take on East Carolina on the road at the end of the season. This team is loaded, not just on offense, but the defense is also strong enough to make them a contender. They are a certain bowl team this year. 2009 Southern Mississippi College Football Predictions

East Carolina: The Pirates open with a very tough FCS (1-AA) opponent in Appalachian State at home, and then face West Virginia and North Carolina on the road. They also host rival Virginia Tech at home in November. This is one tough schedule that features Southern Miss at home in the season finale. 2009 East Carolina College Football Predictions

Memphis: The Tigers face Ole Miss at home, followed by Middle Tennesse State on the road, Tennessee-Martin at home and Tennessee on the road in their non-conference schedule. In conference, games at Houston and a home game against East Carolina will be key. If they can find a consistent running back, they have a legitimate shot to make a bowl game. 2009 Memphis College Football Predictions

Central Florida: UCF should be improved this season with 10 starters back and a new offense. The offense can’t be much worse than last year’s abysmal unit-even with the same players. They’ll open with Samford and then go right into conference play against a very tough Southern Miss team. They also host Buffalo, Miami (FL) and travel to Texas. Brutal schedule other than 1-AA Samford. They should be better than last year, but the record might not show it. 2009 Central Florida College Football Predictions

Marshall: Marshall opens with Southern Illinois at home, but then faces Virginia Tech. They also take on Bowling Green at home and rival West Virginia on the road. This is a pretty tough schedule for a team that has issues at quarterback and a defense that should be better but is still far off the rest of the league. 2009 Marshall College Football Predictions

UAB: UAB faces Rice and SMU at home to start the season, so they jump right into conference play. Their non-conference schedule features Troy, Texas A&M Florida Atlantic and Ole Miss. They do take on Southern Miss at home and ECU on the road. Pretty tough schedule for a team that needs to rebuild their defense and find a consistent running game on offense. 2009 UAB College Football Predictions

Houston: The Cougars open with Northwestern State, but that’s followed by two tough Big 12 games against Oklahoma State on the road and Texas Tech at home. The key conference game will be at Tulsa on November 7th. The Cougars have such a powerful offense, even with a mediocre defense (at best), they can go back to a minor bowl game or even move higher, if they can finish with just a couple of losses. 2009 Houston College Football Predictions

Tulsa: Tulsa faces Sam Houston State and Boise State at home with Oklahoma and New Mexico on the road in their non-conference schedule. That’s not easy, though they do face elite conference teams Houston, East Carolina and Memphis at home with Southern Miss on the road. This is a quality team that will rely on a consistent quarterback and an improved defense to put them over the top. The quarterback is the main thing that separates them from Houston. 2009 Tulsa College Football Predictions

UTEP: The Miners open with Buffalo and Kansas at home. They follow that with roadies against New Mexico State and Texas. The conference schedule features Tulsa and Houston at home, so if they find a defensive rotation that works, they could surprise. 2009 UTEP College Football Predictions

Rice: The Owls open with UAB on the road and then face non-conference opponents Texas Tech and Oklahoma State on the road, along with Vanderbilt at home. That’s a tough task for a team looking to find a suitable replacement at quarterback. They also face East Carolina and Houston on the road, not great luck for a team trying to win the C-USA West. The schedule is extremely challenging for a team that lost so much offensively. 2009 Rice College Football Predictions

Tulane: The Green Wave opens with Tulsa, before facing BYU, McNeese State and Army in their non-conference schedule. They also face state rival LSU in Baton Rouge on Oct. 31. In conference, they end the season with three straight on the road against Rice, UCF and SMU. A road game against Southern Miss is tough. The whole slate is tough for a squad that needs to find its identity on both sides of the ball. 2009 Tulane College Football Predictions

SMU: The Mustangs aren’t really shying away from competition, despite winning just one game last year. They do open with Stephen F. Austin, but after that, they take on Washington State on the road, are at TCU and host Navy. They aren’t gimmes, but will at least be winnable games. This will be a tough season for the Mustangs, but expect some improvement as they are still adjusting to the run-and-shoot and 3-4 schemes. 2009 SMU College Football Predictions

2009 Big 10 Conference College Football Predictions – 2009 Odds to Win Big 10

2009 BIG 10 PREDICTIONS ODDS TO WIN BIG 102009 Big 10 Conference College Football Predictions

Ohio State: The schedule features USC at home in the second game of the season and that game will determine whether Ohio State is ready to be a title contender. Navy, Toledo and New Mexico State should be gimmes. They also face Penn State on the road along with Michigan at the end of the season. The Buckeyes’ defense is good enough to keep them up top of the Big 10, but that’s not saying much. 2009 Ohio State College Football Predictions

Penn State: The Nittany Lions have a ton of talent and a very soft schedule early on. They should easily be 7-0 heading into Ann Arbor on Oct. 24. They also face Ohio State at home, which is a big advantage. As long as Clark stays healthy, the Nittany Lions should be able to make a run at the Big 10 title. The tougher game might be the finale at Michigan State. 2009 Penn State College Football Predictions

Michigan State: The Spartans open with Montana State and Central Michigan so they should start out 2-0. A road game against Notre Dame will be tough, but home games against Penn State and roadies at Purdue and Wisconsin could put them at or near the top at the end of the season. It also doesn’t hurt to skip out on Ohio State this year. Of course, finding a quarterback and a running back rotation can’t hurt. 2009 Michigan State College Football Predictions

Iowa: Iowa could be the sleeper of the Big 10. If Stanzi makes the next step, this team could move into the elite of the league. They open with Northern Arizona, Iowa State on the road and then host Arizona. They also face Arkansas State at home, which could realistically put them at 4-0 in conference play. The problem for Iowa is the schedule in conference, which features Ohio State AND Penn State on the road. 2009 Iowa College Football Predictions

Illinois: Illinois was a tough team to figure out last season. They seriously underachieved, but this season, the expectations are much lower. The offense is dynamic, but the defense needs work. They face Missouri in St. Louis to start the season along with Illinois State at home, Cincinnati on the road and Fresno State at home. Not an easy schedule, which also includes Ohio State on the road and Penn State at home. 2009 Illinois College Football Predictions

Michigan: Rich Rodriguez will be allowed another year of rebuilding, but another 3-8 season will have the natives restless. This should be a much-improved team and the schedule should give them at least three wins (assuming they don’t lose to Toledo again), facing Western and Eastern Michigan along with Delaware State. They also face Notre Dame at home, along with Ohio State and Penn State. They only have four road games so the schedule is certainly beneficial to a possible .500 season and a minor bowl game. 2009 Michigan college Football Predictions

Wisconsin: The Badgers open with Northern Illinois, Fresno State and Wofford at home, followed by a conference game against Michigan State-also at home. That’s a pretty winnable schedule, though it gets tougher with games at Ohio State on the road and they ended at Hawaii. This is one of the easier schedules in the Big 10 and should easily be enough to get them back to a minor bowl game and maybe more. 2009 Wisconsin College Football Predictions

Minnesota: Minnesota has a chance to ruffle some feathers in the Big 10, especially if the running game improves. They open with Syracuse on the road, then face Air Force and California at home. Unfortunately, they face Ohio State and Penn State on the road in a very tough conference schedule, which also features Michigan State, Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa. They also take on South Dakota State at home, but that might not be enough to get them to a minor bowl game even if they show improvement. 2009 Minnesota College Football Predictions

Northwestern: The Wildcats opened up with a 5-0 record last year due to a soft schedule. They have a chance to go at least 4-0 with 1-AA Towson, Eastern Michigan, Syracuse and Minnesota at home to open up. The conference schedule is strong, but they do miss out on Ohio State. The offense will need a few games at least to get cohesive. 2009 Northwestern College Football Predictions

Purdue: The Boilermakers open with Toledo, but then take on Oregon on the road in their first two games. They also host Notre Dame and face Ohio State at home, but they do skip Penn State. The offense will be an issue all season, as it tough to miss that kind of firepower and not decline. 2009 Purdue College Football Predictions

Indiana: The Hoosiers face Eastern Kentucky, Western Michigan and Akron in the early part of their schedule. They also face Virginia on the road, which is not easy, but not impossible either. They also have to take on Penn State on the road and Ohio State at home. Not many wins on the conference slate. 2009 Indiana College Football Predictions

2009 Big East Conference College Football Predictions – 2009 Odds to Win Big East

2009 big east predictions odds to win big east2009 Big East Conference College Football Predictions

West Virginia: West Virginia is a very dangerous team in the Big East, but they won’t be the same without Pat White. They open with Liberty and East Carolina and then take on Auburn on the road. If the offensive line works out, they’ll be back in the major bowl picture. 2009 West Virginia College Football Predictions

Pittsburgh: The Panthers have a fairly easy opening three games facing Youngstown State, Navy and Buffalo. After that, NC State at home and Louisville on the road are not gimmes. They also take on Notre Dame at home and West Virginia on the road, which could decide the conference. Wannstedt should be safe for another year, but it would be nice if they can find a dynamic starting quarterback. 2009 Pittsburgh College Football Predictions

South Florida: Jim Leavitt will have his hands full with a young team that features an inexperienced offensive line. They open with Wofford, Western Kentucky and Charleston Southern. After that, they face Florida State on the road and the reset of a mediocre Big East. With Grothe and Selvie back, there’s always a chance that the Bulls are at or near the top of the Big East. 2009 South Florida College Football Predictions

Rutgers: Rutgers has to find a quarterback first and foremost. If they find one, they should be able to get through Army, Texas Southern, Howard and Florida International with no problem. A road game against Maryland is tough, but they have West Virginia, Pitt and South Florida at home. That’s beneficial for a good but not great team to win the Big East. 2009 Rutgers College Football Predictions

Cincinnati: Cincinnati averaged 25.9ppg last season and may have to score 35ppg to get back to a bowl game. They open at Rutgers, then face S.E. Missouri State and are at Oregon State, followed by a home game at Fresno State. After all that, they have to travel to their state rival, Miami-Ohio. Not brutal, but certainly no cakewalk for a team trying to rebuild its defense. It will be a tough task for Brian Kelly, but he certainly has the ability to find a way to get to a bowl game. 2009 Cincinnati College Football Predictions

Connecticut: Randy Edsall will have less expectations this season and he really has taken the program to new heights. The question is whether he can take them to the next step. A schedule that features Ohio on the road, North Carolina at home, Baylor on the road, Notre Dame on the road, and Rhode Island at home is not impossible. They have tough games in conference against West Virginia and Pitt on the road. 2009 Connecticut College Football Predictions

Louisville: The Cards open with Indiana State and later on, faces Arkansas State at home. But tough games at Kentucky at Utah and Southern Miss at home, make this a tough schedule. Finding a quarterback is a must for a team that will need to put up some points on the board. 2009 Louisville College Football Predictions

Syracuse: Syracuse is not really backing down. They play three Big Ten teams to start the season in Minnesota at home, Penn State on the road and Northwestern at home. They also face Akron and Maine at home and their only road contests in conference are against Pitt, Louisville and Connecticut. Marrone has the offense to at least pull off a few close calls and maybe an upset or two. 2009 Syracuse College Football Predictions

2009 Big 12 Conference College Football Predictions – 2009 Odds to Win Big 12

2009 big 12 predictions odds to win big 122009 Big 12 Conference College Football Predictions

Kansas: Mark Mangino has done wonders with this program and it looks like they have a chance to take a step up and make a major bowl this year. Going 8-5 and to the Insight Bowl again will not be acceptable. With this explosive offense and if they can find some productive linebackers, look out. 2009 Kansas College Football Predictions

Missouri: Expect a sharp decline this year, but this system is in place and they are in a weak division to make a bowl game. They’ll have to rely on Washington and the offensive line to put up points and hope they stop somebody. 2009 Missouri College Football Predictions

Nebraska: The Huskers are fortunate that they are in the Big 12 North as their losses on offense will probably mean a slow start. They open with Florida Atlantic and Arkansas State at home, which should help and also play Louisiana-Lafayette in the fourth game (with Va. Tech before that). It will take some time for the offense to get its bearings, but with a strong defense, they can make waves in the Big 12 North. 2009 Nebraska College Football Predictions

Colorado: Hawkins needs to start producing this season. The spread offense worked great in the WAC, but unless you have all the tools (quarterback), you are not going to produce in the Big 12. The defense has potential, even with a new line, but if Hawkins can’t find a consistent quarterback, they will be stuck in mediocrity. 2009 Colorado College Football Predictions

Kansas State: Snyder is back but don’t expect miracles this season. He is a creative offensive mind and needs to find a way to replace the production of Freeman. On defense, they are going to have to find some players who can fit a new system with two new defensive coordinators. 2009 Kansas State College Football Predictions

Iowa State: While Rhoads has some tools this year and a weak early schedule, this still should be a rebuilding year, especially on the defensive side. Facing Kent State, Army and North Dakota State early on can’t hurt the overall record. 2009 Iowa State College Football Predictions

Texas: The Longhorns should steamroll through this schedule. They face ULM, Wyoming and UTEP in the non-conference schedule. A tough road game against Missouri and Oklahoma State, and they face Oklahoma in Dallas. That game may determine when they go undefeated or not. This is a balanced squad with very few weakness. 2009 Texas College Football Predictions

Oklahoma: If the O-line holds up, look out for Oklahoma. That’s a big if and they could be tested by BYU in the opener at Arlington, Texas and at Miami (FL). Road games at Kansas, Nebraska and Texas Tech are not gimmes either. But as usual, it will come down to the Texas game in Dallas to most likely determine the Big 12 champ. 2009 Oklahoma College Football Predictions

Oklahoma State: Gundy has a chance to win 10 games with a team that starts out with four games at home (though one is Georgia). They do face Texas at home, but Oklahoma is on the road at the end of the season. There’s no reason why they can’t make things interesting down the stretch in the Big 12, if their defense can come together and at least be adequate. 2009 Oklahoma State College Football Predictions

Texas Tech: Mike Leach is an excellent coach, but he has his work cut out for him to try and repeat last year’s 11-2 record. They face North Dakota and Rice at home to start the season, but then take on Texas on the road. The schedule is not overwhelming and even if they take a step down, they should be a solid bowl team again and a very dangerous spoiler in the Big 12. 2009 Texas Tech College Football Predictions

Baylor: The Bears have made some major strides on offense, but their defense is still an issue, especially against such a tough league. They open at Wake Forest and face Uconn, Northwetern State and Kent State at home. After that, it’s the likes of Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Texas. If they can win two on the road, they have a shot at earning a minor bowl bid. 2009 Baylor College Football Predictions

Texas A&M: Sherman has a long ways to go with this program and fans will have to be patient. They face New Mexico, Utah State and UAB at home to start the season, along with Arkansas in Arlington. If they could start out 3-1, that would be a great boost to a conference schedule that features Oklahoma and Texas Tech on the road, along with Texas and OK State at home. 2009 Texas A&M College Football Predictions

2009 ACC Conference College Football Predictions – 2009 Odds to Win ACC Conference

2009 ACC football predictions odds to win ACC2009 ACC Conference College Football Predictions

Virginia Tech: The Hokies can be a championship contender if they can find a passing game. That’s easier said than done as Taylor has to take that leap and become more consistent as a thrower. Senior Matt Waldron has to take control of the kicking job. The defense has virtually no weaknesses. 2009 Virginia Tech College Football Predictions

Florida State: Bobby Bowden returns for his 34th year amid more controversy, but he should have another strong team in a weak ACC Atlantic Division. They face teams like BYU, South Florida and Boston College early on, so they will be tested early. The key will be the performance of Ponder, who showed flashes of brilliance last year. 2009 Florida State College Football Predictions

North Carolina State: Tom O’Brien has averaged winning 7.6 games over his 10 seasons at Boston College, so he knows how to get it done. With Wilson only getting better as he matures, the Wolfpack could surprise some people. But questions at running back, receiver and shaky secondary could be their undoing. 2009 North Carolina State College Football Predictions

Clemson: Head coach Tommy Bowden was let go last season because the players couldn’t get the job done. Last season, Harper was the main culprit. This season, they can improve that position if Korn can live up to his reputation after being named Player of the Year in South Carolina as a junior and senior. 2009 Clemson College Football Predictions

Georgia Tech: On offense, they’ll go as far as their offensive line takes them. Morgan will get double-teamed this year, so they’ll need somebody on other side to step up. The linebackers will have to carry the defense, but with Johnson at the helm, it’s hard to deny Tech have a chance to win the ACC. 2009 Georgia Tech College Football Predictions

North Carolina: Butch Davis brought the Tar Heels back to a bowl game for the first time in four years. Now the goal will be to win one after they lost to West Virginia in the Meineke Bowl. They’ll need a healthy Yates to lead a team that lost three talented receivers and will have to spread the ball out to the running backs and tight ends. 2009 North Carolina College Football Predictions

Wake Forest: As long as Jim Grobe is coaching, the Deacs will be competitive. Skinner is due to take another step forward this season and the offensive line should be sturdy. They only averaged 21ppg last year and will need more points considering the defense is very raw this season. 2009 Wake Forest College Football Predictions

Miami-Florida: Shannon is trying to get the Canes back to the days of them being contenders, but it’s not going to happen overnight. Miami opens against Florida State on the road, then hosts Georgia Tech, plays at Virginia Tech and hosts Oklahoma. Unreal opening schedule. To get the next level, they need good players to become great. It starts at quarterback and ends on defense, where they need playmakers. 2009 Miami-Florida College Football Predictions

Virginia: Could be a rough year for Groh and company. A lot depends on the quarterback situation with Sewell and Hall. They appear to be perfect fits for the spread offense. The running game has to improve though and the inexperience at receiver is a concern. The defense will need at least decent production from the linebackers. 2009 Virginia College Football Predictions

Maryland: The “Fridge” now almost 100 pounds lighter, will have his work cut out this season to try and get this team past a minor bowl. The offensive and defensive lines are the biggest question marks and without production from those positions, you really can’t go too far. 2009 Maryland College Football Predictions

Boston College: What a tough situation for the 61-year old Spaziani. He hired two new coordinators in Bill McGovern (defense) and veteran Gary Tranquill (offense). They’ll need to control the clock and possess the football, because they don’t want to make it an aerial game this year. 2009 Boston College Football Predictions

Duke: The lack of proven playmakers on both sides of the ball will prevent them from making a bowl game this year. But Duke is on the right track with Cutcliffe at the helm. Lewis will make them competitive and they have some good players on defense. Just not enough to compete with the rest of the Coastal Division. 2009 Duke College Football Predictions
