The Marshall Thundering Herd and Troy Trojans are each averaging an identical 83.0 points per game, but both teams have padded their stats against non-lined opponents, so we look for a lower scoring contest here tonight.

In fact, if we eliminate games vs. Division II opponents, the scoring average for Marshall drops to 76.6 points and the average for Troy drops to 73.5, and that combined average of 150.1 points is already about seven points less than this posted total.

Also, do not underestimate the Marshall defense here, as they have not gotten off to a nice 9-2 start by merely outscoring people. The Thundering Herd are allowing just 68.8 points per game on a mere 40.0 percent shooting from the floor, and even after adjusting for their schedule, the Herd have an excellent defensive effective field goal percentage allowed of 44.3 percent, which ranks in the top 50 in the country according to the Pomeroy Ratings.

Now granted, Troy is a terrible defensive team, but the key here is that their offense may not get out of the 60s vs. an underrated Marshall defense. If we go ahead and give the Trojans 65 points, it would mean that Marshall needs to exceed 92 points for this game not to stay Under.

Well, looking at the home vs. away splits, Marshall is averaging 64.0 points on the road and Troy is allowing 70.0 points at home, so we just do not see Marshall lighting up the scoreboard that much.

All things considered, it appears that this posted total is inflated by the scores these teams put up vs. non-board teams, as we see the total output in the game ending up in the 140s.

CBB Free Pick: Marshall, Troy Under 157 (-110)

Monday Night Football hits the Windy City tonight as the rival Vikings come to town to take on the Bears. It’s been a very disappointing year for Chicago and the acquisition of Jay Cutler has not worked out like the team had hoped. Meanwhile, the Vikings are still alive to get the #1 seed in the NFC since the Saints are suddenly struggling. Brett Favre has struggled late in the season the past few years, but hopes to rebound tonight in Chicago. Good luck and enjoy.

One bowl game on the menu tonight, and it should be a good one as Texas A&M takes on Georgia in the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, La. Georgia is a perennial SEC power, but this was considered somewhat of a rebuilding year for Mark Richt. Getting to a bowl game is somewhat of a no brainer in Athens, but really look for this team to take off next year. Coach Mike Sherman has done a nice job in getting the Texas A&M program back to respectability after a few down years. They still have a long way to go, but this is a nice reward for a good season. Good luck and enjoy.

Light schedule in the NBA, with a few decent games on the menu. The best game of the day is in Denver, where the Nuggets will host the Mavericks. These are two teams who looking to become a serious threat to the Lakers reign out West. Cleveland and Houston will battle as the Cavs return home. LeBron James and crew dismantled the Lakers on Christmas Day in front of a impatient Lakers crowd. Good luck and enjoy.

Free NFL Football Picks & Predictions: December 27th 2009

Below are free NFL picks for Sunday, December 27th from Touthouse.com handicappers. If you are looking for free NFL football picks on a daily basis or expert NFL picks from our NFL football betting experts visit Touthouse.com each day.

Free NFL Pick: Houston Texans +3 (Jimmy Boyd)
This is a good matchup for the Texans as I expect their No. 2 ranked passing attack to win the battle against Miami’s No. 23 ranked pass defense today. Plus, I really have no trouble fading the Phins at home when you consider that they are just 6-16 ATS in home games over the last 3 seasons, losing by an average score of 21.2 to 26. Also, the Phins have had a lot or trouble bouncing back from close defeats and last week’s loss to Tennessee was a heartbreaker. In fact, Miami is 0-7 ATS after a loss by 3 or less points over the last 3 seasons, losing in these spots by an average score of 15.9 to 30.0. The underdog is a perfect 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings and the Texans are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games as a road underdog. Also, the Dolphins are just 5-22 ATS in their last 27 games as a home favorite. Take the points.

Free NFL Pick: New England Patriots -450 Moneyline (John Ryan)
Ai Simulator 3* graded play on New England as they host Jacksonville set to start at 1:00 EST. AiS shows a 72% probability that the Patriots will win this game by 8 or more points. Supporting this graded play is a system that has produced a record of 42-17 ATS for 71% winners since 1983. Play against road team after a home game where both teams scored 24 or more points and in the last 2 weeks of the regular season. JAX is just 1-10 ATS (-10.0 Units) off a division game over the last 2 seasons; 4-13 ATS (-10.3 Units) after failing to cover the spread in 4 or 5 out of their last 6 games over the last 2 seasons. This is a game that allows the patriots to open up the offense. Welker and Moss can dominate a defense, but Brady must look off his first read then throw to the second or come back to the first. I believe that one of the reasons the Patriots have not been able to finish off opponents this year is simply because they have to receivers to go to. The Patriots don’t just want to make the playoffs. They want another Super bowl and the only way they can take a shot at that title again is have Brady throwing to at least 7 different receivers in this game. The biggest factor though is that NE is coming off their best pressure performance of the season getting 6 sacks against Buffalo last week. Gerrard does not deal with pressure so look for a lot from all angles possible to confuse Gerrard and have him more concerned about where the pressure is coming from than making his progressions. Take New England.

2009 Armed Forces Bowl Odds: Houston vs. Air Force Pick: December 31st 2009

2009 Armed Forces Bowl: Houston vs. Air Force
Free Pick: Houston -4 -110 Odds
Visit Touthouse.com for more NCAA football picks from Carlo Campanella

Houston (10-3) owns by a top-rated passing offense lead by QB Case Keenum, who looks to overcome the Falcons’ top-ranked passing defense in Fort Worth, Texas. Houston ended an eight-game losing streak in bowl games with a 34-28 victory over Air Force (7-5) last year. Keenum threw for one score and ran for two more as the Cougars avenged a 31-28 home loss to the Falcons in the regular season. After throwing 44 touchdowns as a sophomore, Keenum will enter the final game of his junior season leading an offense averaging 450.0 yards per game. QB Keenum had a total of 614 yards passing in the two games against Air Force last season, but the Falcons have improved to own the nation’s top-rated pass defense, yielding only 148.7 passing yards per game. On the other side of the ball, Air Force has lost back-to-back Armed Forces Bowls under Calhoun and have lost three straight bowls since beating Fresno State in the Silicon Valley Bowl in 2000. Air Force’s offense offers a complete contrast to Houston, featuring the fourth-ranked rushing attack in the country at 273.6 rushing yards per game. That’s a poor match-up for the Cougars, who rank 112th in allowing 213.1 yards per game on the ground. If Houston gets the lead, it will be hard for Air Force to make up much ground without using the clock. Air Force was 7-5 during the regular season, but owned a horrible 1-5 record against bowl teams. Air Force enters this off a 21-38 loss to Bowl winning BYU, but will try to rebound knowing they’re 3-23 ATS following a loss by 10 points or more to a Conference rival. 7* Play On Houston

Free NFL Pick: Arizona Cardinals vs. St. Louis Rams: December 27th 2009

Free NFL Picks - December 27th Below are Free NFL Picks for December 27th from ATS Consultants. Do you want to receive more free expert NFL predictions on a daily basis, be sure to sign-up for the ATS Consultants Newsletter.

Arizona -14.5 over St Louis:
The Cardinals used to be St. Louis’ franchise, and right about now, I’d be willing to bet that the natives in St Louis wish they still were. The Rams are terrible with a capital T, and there really isn’t much hope they’ll be better next season. It’s going to take a franchise type QB to move this team back to respectability, and it doesn’t appear that the #1 pick this draft will be a franchise type. Arizona still has an outside shot at the #2 seed in the NFC although it’s a longshot. That does ensure that they’ll be playing hard throughout, and won’t let up against a much weaker team. Should be a runaway win for the Cards.
