St Louis has been an under-the-radar pointspread machine for the better part of the last two months. Rick Majerus did not enter the season with great expectation for his Billikins squad, and St Louis did not look like a postseason contender for the first three months of the season. But St Louis has caught fire: 12-3 SU, 11-4 ATS in their last 15 ballgames; including a 7-2 ATS mark as an underdog (with six outright wins) during that span. Two of their three losses came against NCAA tourney caliber opposition – Temple and Xavier – and both of those defeats came by six points or less, enough to cover tonight’s inflated pointspread.

The Billikins statistical profile is not going to overwhelm anybody. They miss free throws. They don’t rebound well. At times, the offense grows stagnant. Leading scorer Kwamain Mitchell goes cold at times. Big men Willie Reed and Cody Ellis are not dominant low post presences. There’s not much scoring punch coming off the bench.

Yet even with these weaknesses, the Billikins have done two things on a consistent basis all year long; the two things that are likely to keep them in this game for the full 40 minutes tonight. First and foremost, St Louis plays tremendous defense, holding foes to 40 percent shooting for the season; 28 percent from three point range. VCU loves to get out and run in transition. Their last two losses – both against Old Dominion – came in games where the opposing team forced their pace on the Rams. We can expect this game to be played at St Louis’s pace, not VCU’s.

The other thing St Louis has can’t be measured statistically. Quite simply, this team has heart. We’ve seen it for months now, as they’ve grinded out one tough win after the next. The Billikins don’t quit when trailing. They don’t let up when leading. They hang tough in hostile enviroments. Much like their head coach, this squad is still something of an undervalued commodity, worthy of support in a game that they don’t need to win in order to cover. 2* Take St Louis.

Free NHL Pick: Nashville Predators -125 (Vernon Croy)
3* Take Nashville ATS, This pick falls into one of my top NHL systems and the Predators are the better overall team here tonight. The Predators are 5-0 in their last 5 games against a Southeast opponent and they are 6-1 in their last 7 road games when playing a team that has a losing record at home. Nashville is 20-8 in their last 28 games when favored on the road and they have won 7 of their last 9 games. The Panthers are just 5-25 in their last 30 games as an underdog and they are just 9-26 in their last 35 home games when playing against a team that has a winning record on the road. Take Nashville with great value tonight.

Free NHL Pick: Hurricanes vs. Thrashers Under 6 (Jimmy the Moose)
The Hurricanes have played under the total in 3 straight games and in 4 of their last 5. Carolina has played the under in 4 of their last 5 road games. The under is also a profitable 4-1 in their last 5 games vs. a team with a losing record and in their last 5 games vs. a team from the Eastern Conference. In their last 8 games vs. a team from the Southeast Division the under is 6-2. Their last 4 games played with 1-day rest between action have played under the total. Atlanta’s last 4 games have played under the total. In their last 6 games played vs. a team with a losing record the under is 5-1. The Thrashers last 4 games vs. a team from the Eastern Conference have played under the total. The under is 4-0 in their last 4 in the second game of a home-and-home situation. The teams played on March 27th with the Thrashers winning 4-0 and the game playing under the total. The last two meeting between the clubs have played the under and this one will follow suit.

NBA Betting: San Antonio Spurs vs. New Jersey Nets Odds & Pick: March 29th 2010

San Antonio Spurs vs. New Jersey Nets
Free NBA Pick: New Jersey +8 -110 NBA odds

We won an ugly one yesterday with Minnesota and we will win another ugly one today with New Jersey. I assumed with all of the previous big games, San Antonio would have a tough time last night but it was just the opposite and that high will turn into a low and for pretty obvious reasons. The Spurs are coming off a big win last night in Boston which was their second straight over a top quality opponent, Cleveland being the first, and now they are expected to get up again and win by a large number on the road against the worst team in the NBA. I don’t see it happening. It has been an up and down season for the Spurs and after putting together an 8-1 run, it has gone 4-3 over its last seven games with six of these coming against teams that will be in the playoffs and four of those are the best, Boston, Los Angeles, Cleveland and Orlando. A 4-3 mark is good against this competition but with each of these being big games, it can be mentally taxing. That spells huge letdown tonight and even worse is the fact that it has Houston, Orlando and the Lakers again upcoming in the next three games. New Jersey had its two-game winning streak snapped at Chicago on Saturday and we cashed a very easy ticket with that one. It is pretty evident that the season has been a tough one for New Jersey but it has been playing much more competitive of late as proven by its 8-5 ATS record over its last 13 games. The Nets are not expected to win these games and that puts line value on our side as well as putting the public on the other side. New Jersey falls into an effective situation here as well. Play against favorites that are coming off an upset win as a road underdog while playing eight or more games in 14 days. This situation is 127-82 ATS (60.8 percent) over the last five seasons. Making this even stronger is the fact that the Spurs are 0-7 ATS this season coming off a win as an underdog while also going 4-13 ATS coming off a road win this year. The Nets have covered five straight against the Western Conference and it continues tonight. 3* New Jersey Nets

Center Nene Hilario scores 13.9 points a game. Power forward Kenyon Martin scores 11.8 points a game the Nuggets score 107.1 points a game and they allow 102.5 points a game. Denver is 5-1 OVER their last 6 games with the Mavericks and they are 5-1 OVER their last 6 games vs. winning teams. Dallas is led in scoring by Dirk Nowitzki and his 24.5 points a game. Guard Jason Terry scores 16.8 points a game. Shawn Marion scores 12.1 point a game. Guard Jason Kidd scores 10.1 points a game. Forward Caron Butler scores 16.6 points a game. The Mavericks score 101.6 points a game 99.7 points a game. Dallas is 13-6 OVER off a straight up win and they are 7-3 OVER when playing with one day of rest. PLAY ON ‘OVER’

Free NBA Pick: Spurs vs. Nets Under 193 (Dave Price)
The Spurs just played in Boston Sunday. This is a veteran team so fresh legs will be an issue in this spot. With this is mind, expect the Spurs to really slow the pace. San Antonio is 12-2 UNDER when playing their 2nd road game in 2 days over the last 2 seasons, and we are only seeing 182.9 points scored on average in these spots. The UNDER is also 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams. Take the UNDER.

NBA Betting: Indiana Pacers vs. Atlanta Hawks Odds & Pick: March 28th 2010

Indiana Pacers vs. Atlanta Hawks
Free NBA Pick: Atlanta -8 -110 odds
Visit Touthouse.com for more NBA basketball betting picks from Matt Fargo

Atlanta is coming off a loss at Philadelphia on Friday and this is a good spot for a bounce back. The Hawks have dropped back-to-back games only four times in 2010 and the last three instances were when both games were on the road. The fourth time, which was right at the start of January, came when the second game was on the road. Now playing at home once again, Atlanta will be ready. The Hawks are pretty much locked into the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference as they trail Orlando by 4.5 games in the Southeast Division but with the mathematical possibility still alive, the Hawks are far from giving in. With the next two games coming up against the Lakers and Cavaliers, this is a game Atlanta knows it needs to win and the extra focus will be in place based on the recent run that Indiana has enjoyed. The Pacers have won a season-tying high five straight games but four of those games were at home and the one road win over this stretch was at Detroit. The Pacers are 8-30 on the road this season and of those eight wins, none have been against teams that are going to the playoffs as the best win came at Houston. The other seven wins were Detroit (twice), New Jersey (twice), Philadelphia, Washington and New York. That is not exactly a quality résumé. Prior to that victory over the Pistons, Indiana had dropped nine straight road games and as a single-digit road underdog, it is 17-27-1 ATS on the year. Atlanta easily won the first two meetings this season and not much has changed to see it from continuing. The Pacers defense has shown some huge improvements but that actually puts the Hawks into a very solid situation. Play against road underdogs in the second half of the season that are allowing opponents to shoot between 43.5 and 45.5 percent going up against a team allowing opponents to shoot between 45.5 and 47.5 percent and where the underdog has allowed opponents to shoot less than 42 percent in five straight games. This situation is 27-10 ATS (73 percent) over the last five seasons. The Hawks are 14-5 ATS this season when the total set is between 200 and 209.5 while Indiana is just 3-11 ATS as road underdog between 6.5 and 9 points. 3* Atlanta Hawks

NBA Betting: Denver Nuggets vs. Orlando Magic Odds & Pick: March 28th 2010

Denver Nuggets vs. Orlando Magic
Free NBA Pick: Denver Nuggets +6 -110 odds
Visit Touthouse.com for more NBA betting picks from Jimmy Boyd

The Nuggets have been struggling, but Friday’s win over Toronto gives them the much-needed boost of confidence and momentum to hang with the Magic today. The Nuggets are a team that usually shows up against top notch competition. In fact, Denver is 14-4 ATS when playing against a good team (Win Pct. 60% to 70%), in the 2nd half of the season, over the last 2 seasons, winning these games by an average score of 105.9 to 101.1. Normally, we just don’t see the Nuggets catching this many points, but we are getting additional value with them today because they have dropped 7 in a row ATS. That’s fine by me as Denver is 8-1 ATS as an underdog of 3.5 to 9.5 points this season, winning these games by an average score of 104.7 to 101.2. Take the points.

Free Pick: Tennessee -1 (Craig Trapp)
Who could have imagined that this Volunteer team could make the final four after kicking off Tyler Smith mid season. Bruce Pearl has completely transformed a team that used to just run and gun to a defensive minded hard nosed team. But don’t discount this teams talent as Prince, Mays, Hopson and Chism will all be future NBA players. On the other hand we have the Big Ten last team MSU trying to overcome the huge injury of Lucas two games back. Coach Izzo is a mastermind but even he will have issues trying to will a less talented Spartans squad. Difference here is much more talent on TENN and they now play defense. Ask the Buckeyes how good TEN is as they beat another Big Ten team on SUNDAY!
