The red-hot Angels have the edge at home tonight with ace Jered Weaver on the hill. Weaver, who is 6-1 with a 2.61 ERA through 10 starts, has been unhittable at home where he is 4-0 with an ERA of 0.83 in 4 starts. Weaver has also had success against the Yankees. The Angels are 5-0 all-time in Weavers’ home starts vs. New York.

The Yankees’ Phil Hughes has been at his worst on the road where he is 1-3 with an ERA of 5.12 in 4 starts. He also hasn’t had much luck against the Halos, going 1-2 (1-3 on the ML) with an ERA of 8.70.

The Angels are 24-11 in their last 35 at home versus the Yanks. Take L.A.

Chicago Cubs vs. Pittsburgh Pirates Pick: MLB Picks for May 26th 2012

MLB Picks: May 26th 2012
Chicago Cubs vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
Pick: Pittsburgh Pirates -118
CLICK HERE FOR TODAY’S EXPERT MLB PICKS

The Chicago Cubs are in a slump that they just cannot seem to get out of. The Cubs should not be getting this much respect from oddsmakers tonight. They have now lost 10 straight games overall to take ahold of the worst record (15-30) in baseball.

Chicago’s biggest problem all season has been their offense, where they are hitting just .246 and scoring 3.4 runs/game. The Cubs have scored a combined 6 runs in their last five games overall. They scored 1 run or fewer in four of those five contests.

Former Pirates’ starter Paul Maholm gets the ball for Chicago tonight. Maholm is 1-1 with a 6.06 ERA in three road starts this season. I believe the edge goes to the Pittsburgh hitters as they have a perfect scouting report on the left-hander.

The Cubs are 5-21 in their last 26 vs. a team with a losing record. The Pirates are 6-1 in their last 7 home games vs. a left-handed starter. Pittsburgh starter Kevin Correia is 20-9 against the money line vs. terrible power teams – averaging 0.75 or less HR’s/game since 1997. Bet the Pirates Saturday.

3-0 Friday SWEEP! Jack Jones got back on track last night, and he’s now the No. 5 Ranked Overall Handicapper in 2012! He vows to make it a memorable Memorial Day weekend! Get Jack’s Saturday 5-Play Power Pack for $49.95 and cash in his BIGGEST CARD for the entire month of May! Pick: Los Angeles Angels -122

FREE PLAY from Doc’s Sports. Take #929 Los Angeles Angels over Seattle Mariners (10:10pm ET) The Los Angeles Angels look to take a second straight game in Seattle against the Mariners tonight. They won 3-0 last night behind an amazing performance by Dan Haren who went the distance striking out 14 batters with no walks. There’s no question that the Angels strength is their starting pitching. Their starters have the best ERA in the American League at 3.31, and today they throw another good starter out there in Ervin Santana. The 29-year old right-hander comes in at 2-6 with a 4.22 ERA but he has deserved much better. His run support has simply been awful and therein lays the problem with the Angels – their offense. The Angeles offense currently ranks 13th in the American League. The good news is that just about everyone in their lineup is performing below expectations and they can’t really sink any more than they have. Albert Pujols is batting .225 with only 5 HR’s, but he’s started to heat up with three of those home runs this week and he went 3-4 last night. If he can start catching fire the players around him automatically become more dangerous in that lineup.

Today the Angels will have a good chance to get some things going as they go up against the Mariners’ Blake Beavan. Beavan is 2-4 with a 4.46 ERA on the season, which isn’t terrible until you consider the fact that he pitches in the one of the best pitcher’s parks in all of baseball in Safeco. He probably needs some more work in the minor leagues, but the Mariners don’t have any better alternatives for their rotation right now. He’s not likely to get too much support tonight after last night’s weak showing by Seattle. In fact, the Mariners are 16-35 in their last 51 games after scoring 2 runs or less in their previous game. The Angels have also completely dominated this series and are 37-16 in the last 53 meetings between these clubs. The Angels have a rested bullpen after last night’s game and send out another proven commodity on the mound. They’re the better team right now and the right side in this game.

Expect a pitcher’s duel between Vogelsong and Sanchez to result in a low-scoring game in Miami this evening.

The under in 4-0 in Vogelsong’s last 4 starts as he has limited the opposition to 1 or no earned runs in each of those outings. It is also worth noting that no more than 5 total runs were scored in any of these games.

The under is 6-0 in Sanchez’s last 6 starts as he has held the opposition to 3 earned runs or fewer in each of those games. It should also be noted that no more than 5 total runs were scored in any of these contests.

In addition, these two clubs have played to the under in each of the last 7 times they’ve faced off. 7 runs in the most they’ve combined for during this stretch, and they have only averaged a total of 3.9 runs in these matchups. Take the under.

The Tigers are showing value at this price considering they have won 10 in a row versus the Indians, including 4 straight in Cleveland. Plus, scheduled starter Rick Porcello has had his fair share of success against the Tribe.

Porcello is 5-1 (9-3 on the ML) with an ERA of 3.86 in 12 career starts versus the Indians. The Tigers have won his last 3 starts versus Cleveland.

Ubaldo Jimenez has been unable to regain the form he showed in Colorado a couple seasons ago. He’s never had much luck versus Detroit as evidenced by his 2-5 record and 6.86 ERA in 7 career starts versus the Tigers.

The Indians are 1-4 in their last 5 games as a home favorite while the Tigers are 4-1 in their last 5 games as a road underdog. It’s also worth mentioning the Tigers are 11-4 in Porcello’s last 15 road starts. Take Detroit.

I’m backing the San Francisco Giants and the highest-paid right-handed pitcher in baseball history tonight. Matt Cain is showing great value at nearly even money against Shaun Marcum and the Milwaukee Brewers.

Cain is 3-2 with a 2.67 ERA and 0.820 WHIP in eight starts this season. He has stuck out 54 batters in 57 1/3 innings to pick up right where he left off last year. Marcum is 2-2 with a 3.31 ERA and 1.245 WHIP in eight starts this season, but he’s clearly no Cain.

The Brewers are just 17-25 this season as they’re clearly missing Prince Fielder. Milwaukee has lost five of their last six overall, and they continue to get treated with too much respect from oddsmakers. If you bet $100/game on the Brewers this season you would be down $1,370.

Milwaukee is 0-7 in Marcum’s last 7 home starts vs. a team with a winning record. The Brewers are 18-38 in their last 56 games as an underdog. The Giants are 5-1 in their last 6 meetings in this series, and 9-3 in their last 12 meetings in Milwaukee. Bet San Francisco Tuesday.
