Although the college football betting spread has them pegged as eleven point favorites in sunny Hawaii against the East Carolina Pirates, one must think that the Boise State Broncos fell somewhat let down by not making a BCS bowl this year. Especially so after last season when they not only made a BCS bowl berth happen, but they won the game in one of the most thrilling fashions any football game has ever witnessed. In taking this game in Hawaii, the Broncos had to turn down an offer for a bigger bowl game, the Humanitarian Bowl, which would have seen them play a better team in Georgia Tech. If you bet on football, keep in mind that it is very possible that the Broncos will use their time in Hawaii as more of a vacation than a final game of the season.

East Carolina Pirates +11 vs. Boise State Broncos -11 odds

To win this game handily, Boise will have to use each facet of their capably balanced offensive attack. Running back Ian Johnson, once a heisman candidate, will run behind an experienced O-line led by left tackle Ryan Clady, who should make the jump to the NFL. The line will look to establish Johnson early against a Pirates front four that is weakened significantly by injuries and has yet to face an opponent nearly as strong as the Broncos. Johnson could have a monster day against this front, as he is smart, fast, and can make the most of his blockers.

 The Broncos passing game will not have it all that tough either, as quarterback Taylor Tharp has been sharp all season, with just nine INTs all year. His main target will be wide receiver Jeremy Childs, whose 82 receptions this season were a school record and went along nicely with his nine touchdown catches. The dilemma for the Pirates will be whether to take chances getting beat by the run or the pass, as they will have to bring up a safety to combat the run, but that could open Childs up downfield. Balancing the issues will be the job of the defensive coordinator for the Pirates. If he wins the chess game, his team could stay in this one. If he loses, Boise could cover the eleven-point college football betting spread by halftime.
