The Dallas Mavericks are going to show up tonight highly motivated to beat the Washington Wizards. Not only do I believe they will win this game, I have them doing so in blowout fashion. This is certainly a game the Mavericks feel like they have to win to get back on track.

Dallas comes into this game having lost three straight and four of their last five. A big reason for their recent struggles has been a brutal schedule. They played five games in six nights during this stretch, and four of those were on the road. There aren’t many teams that could handle a stretch like that much better.

Coming in on two days’ rest and with refreshed minds, the Mavericks are primed to put forth one of their best efforts of the season tonight. Washington is in a tough spot here as they will be playing the second of a back-to-back and their 3rd game in four days. They lost 97-112 at San Antonio last night, and a similar beat down can be expected here.

These two teams played Sunday and the total reached 204. While we do think the teams will make some defensive adjustments and that this one will not be as highs scoring as the last meeting, we had this line handicapped at 197 so we think there is some nice value here. The Bobcats are finally healthy and their offense seems to be clicking right now as they have hit the century mark in two of their last three games. Having Corey Maggette and DJ Augustin back on the court really helps this offense, which has been one of the worst in the league all season but has struggled with injuries for much of the year, especially to these two key offensive components. And New Jersey is a team the Bobcats can definitely score on. They put up 101 in the last game despite shooting less than 39 percent from the field and less than 15 percent from three-point land. These numbers are well under their season averages in both categories. The Nets allow 100 PPG and they allow opponents to shoot a shade under 48 percent from the field so there is a great chance that the Bobcats will have better shooting results than they did in the recent game. The Bobcats allow more than 100 points per game on the season and that means the Nets have a great chance to rack up some points as well. New Jersey has allowed 100 or more in four straight games and five of their last six. We also think this will be another close game and fouls could come into play at the end of the game if this total is close to push the number over the posted total. The New York Knicks were only a 2-point underdog at Dallas last night, the defending world champions. While I took the Mavericks last night, I’m going to back the Knicks tonight in a game that I believe will go right down to the wire. San Antonio is way overvalued in this spot and should not be favored by 7 if Dallas was only favored by 2.

Jeremy Lin and Carmelo Anthony went a combined 6-of-25 shooting last night for 20 points. Yet the Knicks actually held a lead midway through the final period until Dallas managed to pull away late in the fourth quarter. There’s no way these two stars will have another big off night.

San Antonio is no longer a great defensive team. The Spurs are giving up 95.1 points/game overall on 45.2 percent shooting. To compare, the Knicks give up 94.9 points on 44.2 percent shooting. New York has actually put more effort into the defensive end this season. A big reason for that is the addition of Tyson Chandler, who will be able to keep Tim Duncan in check.
