2007 AFC East NFL Picks & Predictions

August 9th, 2007

2007 AFC EAST NFL PREDICTIONS - NFL PICKSBuffalo Bills – AFC East NFL Predictions
Widely considered the bottom-feeder of the AFC East, don’t be so quick to write this team off. They are a young, scrappy team that finished up the season 5-4 after their bye week. They return an even younger outfit but a group that is starting to grow. J.P. Losman proved himself as a solid prospect and a quality quarterback last season. Surrounding him will be wide receiver, Lee Evans, who is ready to become a top-10 wideout, along with Peerless Price and burner Roscoe Parrish. There is a lot of speed to go around on this offense. The Bills also swapped out Willis McGahee, a locker room distraction, for first-round pick, Marshawn Lynch, who will be a much stronger asset in the passing game. While the Bills offense will be fun to watch, their defense is extremely green and can’t be taken seriously just yet. With such a young roster, the Bills are the long shot in the AFC East.

New England Patriots – AFC East NFL Predictions
The Patriots have won the AFC East in five of the last six seasons and are heavily favored to do so again. After getting by with waiver-wire scrap-heap free agents, the Patriots finally opened up their checkbook this offseason to bring in some big names. An already effective offense adds Randy Moss, a potential Hall of Famer, Donte Stallworth, a speed demon, Wes Welker, Miami’s leading receiver last season, and Kelley Washington, a young prospect with potential. On defense, the Patriots added versatile linebacker Adalius Thomas, veteran cornerback Tory James and safety Brandon Meriweather. The Patriots easily field the top roster in the East and should win it again.

New York Jets – AFC East NFL Predictions
Similar to the Patriots, the Jets – a 10-win team in 2006 – have upgraded their roster and expectations for 2007. A sterile running game will get a big boost with the addition of Thomas Jones, who has been a steady, yet underrated, running back. But even so, the Jets offense is limited. Quarterback Chad Pennington lacks arm strength and furthering the lack of big-play ability is the lack of explosive weapons. Laveranues Coles isn’t much more than possession receiver while Jerrico Cotchery isn’t much of a deep threat. But the Jets are using the similar model as the Patriots, building up the defense first and feeding off of that. They added two first-round picks in corner Darrelle Revis and David Harrison, which will improve an already deceptively good defense. Head Coach, Eric Mangini has done what the Patriots have done during their success under Bill Belichick, and that is make an average roster overachieve. This team looks far worse on paper than they actually are on Sundays.

Miami Dolphins – AFC East NFL Predictions
While the decision to pick veteran Trent Green instead of possible franchise quarterback Brady Quinn has been derided, this move will produce much more short-term success. Even though Green is 37-years-old, the Dolphins still haven’t had a quarterback like him in a long time. The passing game really struggled last season under Joey Harrington and Cleo Lemon and the ripple effect of that was felt everywhere else on the team. With Green, the passing game will be respected, which will pay immediate dividends to stud running back Ronnie Brown. The Dolphins are a real wild card; with a talented front seven on defense with a suddenly capable offense, the Dolphins will be far from a pushover. If Ted Ginn Jr. can be an x-factor, as the Dolphins deem him to be, then Miami will have much more balance and can definitely compete for a playoff spot. Just remember, the Dolphins acquired Daunte Culpepper last season, a move believed to have secured the quarterback position, the Dolphins were talked about as a dark horse in the AFC. Maybe those predictions were just one year too early.

2007 AFC West NFL Picks & Predictions

August 9th, 2007

2007 AFC WEST PREDICTIONS - 2007 NFL PICKSSan Diego Chargers – AFC West NFL predictions
So let me get this straight. The Chargers lost Marty Shottenheimer, Wade Phillips and Cam Cameron as their three main coaches, and replaced them with Norv Turner? Yikes. To be fair, Turner’s role as an offensive coordinator in San Francisco last season helped turn the Niners in to a potential playoff team. With LT2, Philip Rivers and a strong receiving corps, the Chargers could be a fool-proof team, even in Turner’s hands. The Chargers will be without the services of veteran Keenan McCardell, but Antonio Gates, Eric Parker and Vincent Jackson are a formidable, if unspectacular, trio. And when LT is running behind that overwhelming offensive line, the Chargers will have no problems scoring. The defense returns in full force. The front three of Jamal Williams, Igor Olshansky and Luis Castillo is dominating. Then there’s Shawn “Lights Out” Merriman who is quickly becoming the most feared defensive player in football. The problem with the Chargers remains their secondary, which remains extremely vulnerable. But that’s a small price to pay when the front seven are getting in to the backfield so often. The Chargers are third behind the Patriots and the Colts to win Super Bowl XLII, and for good reason. Many felt that Marty was becoming predictable and he was unable to produce in the playoffs. Turner proved himself in San Fran as a solid offensive co-coordinator, and the injection of new coaching blood may be what the Chargers need. With the Colts taking such a hit on the offensive side of the ball, the Chargers will be the biggest threat to the Patriots in the AFC, let alone the whole NFL. Be wary of new coaches though. Only one has ever won a Super Bowl with a brand new squad (Gruden and the Bucs in 2002).

Denver Broncos – AFC West NFL Predictions
The Broncos are an interesting team to watch. They consistently run the ball effectively, and Travis Henry returned to form behind a shoddy Titans backfield last season. Expect Mike Shanahan to get the most out of Henry. Quarterback Jay Cutler came in to his own in place of Jake Plummer, and Shanahan’s trust was not misplaced. With the ageless Rod Smith and Javon Walker running routes, Cutler will be hard pressed to fail. He has a canon for an arm and may be just the man to bring big play ball back to Denver. The secondary is what has Denver excited the most. It wasn’t enough that they had shutdown corner Champ Bailey and the ever vigilant John Lynch. No, they had to go ahead and pick up another shut down corner in Dre Bly. The Broncos will be impossible to throw against, unless teams simply get lucky. Running against the Broncos will also prove difficult as the star-less front seven of the Broncos has been a consistently strong run defense in the NFL for seasons. As much as you may despise Mike Shanahan, he is one of the premier coaches in the NFL.

Kansas City Chiefs - AFC West NFL Predictions
Versatile power running back Larry Johnson is the motor of this engine, but he is currently in a holdout because he is making a vastly undervalued salary of $1.7 million. Expect the Chiefs to reward his services in a big way. The curious move here was releasing Trent Green and relying on Damon Huard to be the full-time starter. Huard had one of the better and more consistent seasons at quarterback last year, which is reason to have faith in him, but the team has a lot of offensive question marks. Tony Gonzalez and Eddie Kennison are getting on in age, and while Togo revitalized his career last year, Kennison has not made the ‘big jump’ as a number one receiver. Sami Parker certainly is not going to deliver any huge numbers as a receiver. This makes the draft pick of Dwayne Bowe from LSU so vital to the success of the Chiefs.Bowe will pan out in the NFL. He has the body, the hands, the speed and the tenacity to be a force running routes. With Johnson commanding so much attention defensively, Bowe and Kennison will be available in one-on-one coverage. Now it’s up to Huard to make the most out of them. The thing you have to wonder about the Chiefs is whether Huard can handle the pressure of being the go-to guy. The man has the character and the talent, but being the full-time starter in football crazy Arrowhead Stadium is a big task. Can he put up the 4000+ yard seasons of Trent Green? That remains to be seen. Defensively the Chiefs are solid, albeit a tad old. Ty Law and Patrick Surtain will be leaders in a locker room full of potential, but the defense must step up and keep points off the board.

Oakland Raiders – AFC West NFL Predictions
Wow, even I didn’t think the Raiders were bad enough to get +15000! That’s crazy. Ok, maybe not entirely crazy. After spending a few years being the laughing stock of the league, Al Davis and the silver and black attack got the coach they wanted in young Lane Kiffen from USC. They also got the quarterback they wanted in LSU’s Jamarcus Russell, who went number one in the draft this year. Russell will compete with Josh McCown for the starting job, but the Raiders will be impatient in his progress and Russell should be starting by Week Three, if he hasn’t secured the starting spot by Week One. The offensive line is still troublesome, but the rest of the weapons are there. Jerry Porter is much happier under the Kiffen regime and should produce alongside Doug Gabriel, Ronald Curry and the newly acquired Mike Williams who played under Kiffen at USC. The Raiders also have four promising backs, and one of them is bound to emerge (Right? Am I crazy for thinking this?). Lamont Jordan has proven that he is simply not starter material. The offensive line didn’t help much, but Jordan simply lacks the tools necessary to succeed in Kiffen’s offense. Justin Fargas and Dominic Rhodes will compete to back him up and eventually usurp him. I like Fargas in that race, but then Louisville’s Michael Bush is there too and he is a sensational talent and may very well be the future of the Raider backfield. With the vast amount of new faces on the Raider organization (quarterbacks, running backs, receivers and coaches) the offense will stumble in 2007-08. They may be a force in coming seasons, if Russell pans out, which is still a big ‘if.’ The defense is still rock solid, but keep your money safe and away from the Black Hole that is the Raiders.

2007 AFC South NFL Picks & Predictions

August 9th, 2007

2007 AFC SOUTH PICKS - 2007 NFL PREDICTIONSIndianapolis Colts – AFC South NFL Predictions
News Flash! The Indianapolis Colts biggest offseason free agent acquisition has been that of mediocre wide receiver Craphonso Thorpe. While the addition of rookie wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez should help, the Colts haven’t helped themselves much through either the draft or free agency – at least not for the immediate future. However, the Colts do have Tony Dungy, Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison, not to mention second-year running back Joseph Addai and wideout Reggie Wayne.

Tennessee Titans – AFC South NFL Predictions
The Titans will have an improved Vince Young this season and what could turn out to be a better-than-expected defense – even with the loss of Adam “Pacman” Jones. Tennessee is definitely a team on the rise and has one of the best head coaches in the game in Jeff Fisher. If the Titans get off to a better start than they did last season, they could surprise.

Jacksonville Jaguars – AFC South NFL Predictions
The Jaguars’ act is starting to wear thin. Head coach Jack Del Rio has built this team into one of the finest defensive units in the league over the past several seasons. However, the Jaguars problem is the same as it was three years ago – no offense. So what did the Jags’ brain trust do about it this offseason? Get more talented defensive players – that’s what. This could be Del Rio’s swan song in Jacksonville.

Houston Texans – AFC South NFL Predictions
I have absolutely nothing against the Houston Texans and I was actually hoping Gary Kubiak would do better in his first season with the Texans last year. The Texans, however, are so far behind the other teams in this division, it’s going to take at least two or three years minimum for them to be able to really compete with their division rivals. They are headed in the right direction and the additions of quarterback Matt Schaub should and rookie defensive lineman Amobi Okoye should help. Keep your money in your pockets here, bettors. No way do the Texans come close to winning this division.

2007 AFC North NFL Picks & Predictions

August 9th, 2007

2007 AFC NORTH PICKS - NFL PREDICTIONSBaltimore Ravens – AFC North NFL Predictions
Although a quick playoff exit might be the lasting memory of the 2006 Ravens, don’t forgot that they won 13 games. Baltimore returns what very well could be a stronger roster that is one year advanced in their quest for the Super Bowl. Most of their defensive and offensive starters return, which means team chemistry will be at a high. Though the loss of Pro Bowl linebacker Adalius Thomas is significant, the Ravens have replaced defensive parts in the past. Given the Ravens’ pedigree, it is difficult to question their decisions on defense. On offense, though, the Ravens swap out an over-the-hill Jamal Lewis for an explosive, younger running back who is about to hit his prime. Willis McGahee presents the Ravens with an additional weapon and furthermore, he doesn’t require the use of a fullback as much as Lewis did. That translates into more three and four wide receiver sets and, eventually, more points for the offense and more balance for a team that should be deemed a Super Bowl contender.

Cincinnati Bengals – AFC North NFL Predictions
After turning into a budding team on the cusp in 2005, the Bengals took a step backwards in 2006. But now that most of the arrests and off-field violations are behind them, the Bengals should be back to contending for a playoff position. For starters, quarterback Carson Palmer spent an offseason working with wide receivers, as opposed to rehabbing, which is what kept him busy last offseason. The boiling point for the Bengals this season is their defense, and they claim it will be improved. That might be a tough sell, now that game-changing linebacker, Odell Thurman, has been suspended for a second consecutive season. Overall, though, the Bengals have a young roster with a number of players (Palmer, Chad Johnson, T.J. Houshmanzadeh, Rudi Johnson, Levi Jones, Johnathan Joseph, Madieu Williams, Ahmad Brooks and Landon Johnson) who are at the beginning or in their prime. Since they are so young, you can expect them to be a year for the wiser from last year’s mistakes and expect them to get stronger as the season wears on. This division is between the Bengals and Ravens.

Cleveland Browns – AFC North NFL Predictions
There is no question that 2007 will be a transitional year for the Browns. But the real intrigue is surrounding possible franchise quarterback Brady Quinn and his potential to turn around the horrific luck of the Browns since their return to the NFL. The coaching staff is on the hot seat and might need to win games to save their job, which means they might be more inclined to play veterans. The front office, though, would prefer to see the younger players on the field to speed up the development process. The Browns desperately need to regain some optimism and some quality flashes from Quinn, as well as the development of Braylon Edwards, would give the offense a real shot in the arm. But there is no skirting the Browns’ mess on defense. Their defensive line is old and breaking down, their linebackers are filled with young potential, their safeties are on the cusp and their cornerbacks are young and inexperienced. At least running back Jamal Lewis won’t be running wild on them twice a year anymore – he is now on the roster.

Pittsburgh Steelers – AFC North NFL Predictions
Now that Bill Cowher is gone, the chin density per population definitely decreases, and so do the Steelers opportunities for contending. Pittsburgh flopped in 2006 after a Championship season in 2005 and now has to answer more questions than they would have liked: Is Ben Roethlisberger going to regain his 2005 form? Can Willie Parker continue to handle the full running back duties? Will the cornerbacks bounce back after an atrocious performance last season? Can first-round pick Lawrence Timmons replace Joey Porter? How does the team look under first-time head coach Mike Tomlin? There is too much uncertainty here to expect this team to win more than eight games.

2007 NFC West Football Picks & Predictions

August 9th, 2007

2007 NFC WEST PREDICTIONS - NFL PICKSSeattle Seahawks – NFC West Football Predictions
Though the Seahawks only helped themselves minimally in both the draft and free agency, they will be the favorite to win this division once again on the strength of their coaching and experience, if not overall talent. Seattle gave up their first round draft pick to get Deion Branch last season, but their best pick in this year’s draft, defensive tackle Brandon Mebane, will shore up a problematic defensive line along with veteran defensive end Patrick Kerney, acquired in free agency. None of the Seahawks’ transactions will matter much if running back Shawn Alexander and quarterback Matt Hasselbeck can’t bounce back from an injury-plagued 2006. Simply put, the rest of the teams in this division are gaining ground on the Seahawks – and it may not be long before one of them takes the division title in the process.

San Francisco – NFC West Football Predictions
Speaking of teams that are gaining on the Seahawks, look no further than the San Francisco 49ers, who overachieved immensely last season to reach 7-9 with plenty of room for improvement. The Niners had one of the best drafts of any team in the league, grabbing three possible first-year starters in linebacker Patrick Willis, offensive tackle Joe Staley and wide receiver Jason Hill. San Francisco also did fairly well in free agency, bringing in several veteran players who should help them to improve even more in 2007. The additions of cornerback Nate Clemens and safety Michael Lewis should help to shore up their suspect defensive secondary. Darrell Jackson, former Seahawk number one receiver, will give Alex Smith a big target. If Jackson can hang onto the ball, his size and experience will be a huge asset for the offense.

Arizona Cardinals – NFC West Football Predictions
The Arizona Cardinals are going to be a tough team to figure out in 2007, at least in the early going, as new head coach Ken Whisenhunt prepares for his first year as an NFL head coach. While the Cardinals certainly have some important pieces in place, they are still lacking in too many areas to make a real run at winning this division in 2007. The Cardinals did have an excellent draft, grabbing two players that will immediately start in offensive tackle Levi Brown and defensive tackle Alan Branch. Arizona also did fairly well in free agency and cornerback Rod Hood is going to open some eyes. They may be another year or two away from becoming a very good team, but Matt Leinart and company could surprise several teams that take them too lightly in 2007.

St. Louis Rams – NFC West Football Predictions
After starting the 2006 season like gangbusters, winning four of their first five games, the Rams fell in the middle of the season before winning their final three regular season games to finish at a respectable 8-8 under first year head coach Scott Linehan. St. Louis also did well in free agency and the draft, grabbing former Nebraska defensive tackle Adam Carriker and former Rutgers fullback Brian Leonard – two players who will immediately challenge for starting spots as rookies. The Rams also signed veterans Dante Hall, Todd Steussie, Randy McMichael and Drew Bennett, four players who know how to play the game and should help upgrade the Rams offense enormously.

2007 NFC East Football Picks & Predictions

August 9th, 2007

2007 NFC EAST PREDICTIONS - NFL PICKSDallas Cowboys – NFC East Football Predictions
Tony Romo went from rags-to-riches last season and now those lofty Dallas Cowboys expectations are back to “Super Bowl or bust”. The Cowboys had two glaring weaknesses on defense last season: pass rush and free safety. The pass rush was addressed in the first round of the NFL draft, when the Cowboys selected Anthony Spencer, who is in the DeMarcus Ware mold. The safety spot was filled by veteran Ken Hamlin. Both figure to provide upgrades. Combined with the fact that new head coach, Wade Phillips, is a defensive guru, the Cowboys defense should take a step forward. On offense, the Cowboys should be a better outfit too, especially with Romo starting the whole season. The running back tandem of Julius Jones and Marion Barber is solid, Terrell Owens’ hand has fully healed and the Cowboys opened up the chequebook to upgrade the offensive line. This team will go as far as Romo can take them.

New York Giants – NFC East Football Predictions
Everyone keeps waiting on Eli Manning to grow up and develop into the type of Manning that we are used to seeing, but that might not happen. He’s had three years to do it and hasn’t necessarily improved in the last two. It is hard to gage this offense. On one hand, Manning has seemingly hit a lull, left tackle Luke Petitgout was cut and Tiki Barber retired. On the other hand, Manning is expected to improve and his weaponry should be stronger. Along with Amani Toomer, Plaxico Burress and Jeremy Shockey, Manning is hoping that second-year speedster, Sinorice Moss, or rookie, Steve Smith, get in on the action. Even so, Tom Coughlin looks like a lame duck coach whose team has started to tune him out. Furthermore, they’ve ripped him during the past two seasons. There isn’t enough space in this column to start detailing the issues on defense, which translates to another 8-8 season.

Philadelphia Eagles – NFC East Football Predictions
You don’t have to wonder about this team. As always, they will be competing for the division crown. It will be interesting to see whether they continue the 50-50 pass-run split that was extremely effective after Donovan McNabb’s season-ending injury, or if they will go back to their unbalanced attack, which forces the ball through their air between 60%-70%. If they run the ball more frequently, the Eagles are a Super Bowl contender. When that happens, they can play ball control and keep their stellar defense on the sidelines resting. The defense, as usual, will once again be an effective unit. They always bend up-and-down the field and give up their share of yards but they are a high-pressure unit that forces mistakes and tightens up in the red zone. The Eagles are the model of consistency, meaning the division is theirs to lose.

Washington Redskins – NFC East Football Predictions
The Redskins should be an interesting team to watch in 2007. They did win 10 games in 2006 before coughing up only five last year. The All-Star coaching staff is still there, which means this team will always be a candidate for a big turnaround. On offense, the Redskins will be relying on Jason Campbell, who should grow significantly in his third season. The offensive line is solid and the backfield is stacked with the Clinton Portis-Ladell Bets duo. The wide receivers are small, but fast, and that is where the sharp coaching staff has to use their heads to make the most of it. Last year’s defense was an aberration from what we typically see from Gregg Williams. Expect him to have his squad better prepared this year. For starters, the ‘Skins have a high draft pick at free safety in LaRon Landry, instead of a highly-paid bust, Adam Archuleta. They also brought back Fred Smoot at cornerback, whom they shouldn’t have gotten rid of in the first place. This team has the ability to finish anywhere from first to fourth in the NFC East.

2007 NFC South Football Picks & Predictions

August 9th, 2007

2007 NFC SOUTH NFL PREDICTIONSAtlanta Falcons – NFC South Football Predictions
The Michael Vick saga will hurt the Falcons but this could be a blessing in disguise. The Falcons now have an out for his lofty contract and he was never a good passer to begin with. Joey Harrington is in his best situation to succeed and he finally has no pressure to perform. This could be his chance to finally shine.Look for the maligned Falcons receivers to perform at a much higher level now that they have a real quarterback throwing to them. With a new offensive scheme and the team transitioning from Vick and Dunn, to Harrington and Jerious Norwood, expect this to be a developmental year.

Carolina Panthers – NFC South Football Predictions
This time last year, the Panthers were talked about as potential Super Bowl contenders. A year later, nobody seems to know what to expect. The offensive line should be much improved if they don’t lose their starting center and left tackle for the season again, which inherently will help Jake Delhomme bounce back from his awful season. The running game needs to step up and DeAngelo Williams has to be the guy to carry the load. There are many questions facing this team. Who will be the second receiving target in the offense besides Steve Smith? Can Dan Morgan stay healthy for a season? Who will play safety for this team? There is still a lot of potential but far less certainties this time around.

New Orleans Saints – NFC South Football Predictions
If you’re wondering what a Pro Bowl quarterback can do for your offense, just ask the New Orleans Saints. They went from outhouse to penthouse in one season and are the favorites to repeat as division champs. Expect the road back to be much more arduous with a strengthened schedule and the element of surprise no longer present. The Saints offense should be just as good as last year’s outfit, assuming the wide receivers continue in their development. The defense is more likely to come back down to Earth; they don’t have nearly as much talent and thrived off of confidence last season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers – NFC South Football Predictions
The Bucs went from 11 wins and the division crown in 2005, to four wins and last place in 2006. The Buccaneers are somewhere in between but most of their success is contingent on the performance on the line of scrimmage. They have been retooling their offensive line for years and it should finally be consistent, like it was in 2005. They will be protecting Jeff Garcia, who should thrive under Jon Gruden. Be it Rich Gannon or Brian Griese, Gruden has done an excellent job of milking veteran quarterbacks in the NFL. The ripple effect will be felt throughout the offense. Running backs that have played with Garcia in the past have been averaged around 1500 total yards. On defense, with Monte Kiffin still running the show, the Bucs could be top 10 once again – they have been almost every season with Kiffin as their defensive coordinator. The Bucs are a real wild card. They probably aren’t as good as 11 wins, like in 2005 but are much better than the four-win team from last season.

2007 NFC North Football Picks & Predictions

August 9th, 2007

2007 NFC NORTH PREDICTIONS - NFL PREDICTIONSChicago Bears – NFC North Football Predictions - Click Here for NFL Betting at BodogLife
The NFC representative in last year’s Super Bowl is back and should be even stronger. The defense lost Tank Johnson but acquired Darwin Walker and Adam Archuleta. Combined with the return of veteran safety Mike Brown, the Bears defense should remain just as strong. On offense, the Bears have surrounded maligned quarterback Rex Grossman with some weapons. There are many more playmakers and much more speed to go around. The Bears upgraded at tight end with deep threat Greg Olsen, Devin Hester and Garrett Wolfe. Expect Grossman to play significantly better this year; after all last season was his first full year as a starter.

Detroit Lions – NFC North Football Predictions
Jon Kitna boldly proclaimed that the Lions would win 10 games – which still won’t be enough to win the division. The Lions have a very underrated coaching staff with Mike Martz running the offense and Rod Marinelli running the defense (and team). The cover-two defense that they play is very dependent on the front four, which has been vastly upgraded. The defense should be better even if by default alone. They can’t be much worse than last season. An already stellar offense has also got some enhancements. Calvin Johnson, who could have been the top draft pick in the 2007 Draft, will help a gifted corps of wideouts. The running back situation, which was dicey last year after Kevin Jones suffered a foot injury, now has Tatum Bell and T.J. Duckett for depth. Don’t be surprised to see this team with 8-10 wins.

Green Bay Packers – NFC North Football Predictions
While many people are giving the Lions sleeper status, don’t sleep on the Packers. They aren’t great in any one area of their club, but they are very good virtually everywhere. The offense won’t miss Ahman Green too much with Vernand Morency and second-round pick Brandon Jackson offering up younger, fresher, more explosive legs. Brett Favre isn’t overmatched as he was two years ago and although he is aging, he’ll have adequate help everywhere around him. Expect the Packers home field advantage to come back. Their once-daunting Lambeau Field has been pillaged by visitors in the past two seasons but expect the Packers to have a winning record at home for the first time in three years.

Minnesota Vikings – NFC North Football Predictions
Every division needs to have a whipping boy and this year’s piñata in the NFC North is the Vikings. With an inexperienced quarterback, sophomore Tarvaris Jackson and a number of unproven receivers, the Vikings will have to use this season to build up their offense. They are strong on both lines of scrimmages, which means the Vikings won’t be a pushover opponent unless they turnover the ball consistently. Brad Childress’ team may not make a lot of progress in his second season, which is why I’m making the early call that he will enter 2008 as one of the coaches on the hot seat.
