Hopes and dreams on both sides of the NCAA Tournament bracket will be sorted out just a tad on the final day of the regular season of the college basketball betting world when the Florida Gators (20-10, 13-12 ATS) travel to Rupp Arena to tango with the Kentucky Wildcats (28-2, 16-12 ATS). Florida is probably one of the last four teams or so that is on the outside of the field of 65 looking in right now, and it badly needs an upset in this game to feel safe going into next week. Meanwhile, Kentucky knows that that loss to Tennessee last weekend probably wasn’t a killer, but a loss here and an unforeseen loss at the outset of the SEC Tournament could knock the Cats from the #1 line.
Florida’s scoring efforts have picked up thanks in large part to F Vernon Macklin. The 6’10″ forward has scored at least 20 points in three of his L/8 games, which has raised his scoring average to a healthy 10.7 points per game. The Gators aren’t an incredibly deep team beyond their starting five, but those five top scorers are all in the double digits per game range. In order to succeed in the NCAA Tournament though, HC Billy Donovan is going to have to get some support from someone else in the lineup.
It looks like the loss to the Vols was merely a bump in the road for a team destined to finish the season as the #1 seed in the East Bracket in March Madness. An 8-8 ATS record at Rupp Arena makes this team a hard one to handicap, but it is definitely one that is full of talent. It’s fairly clear that there are three NBA players on this squad in G John Wall, F DeMarcus Cousins, and F Patrick Patterson. Those three are combining to score 48.0 points per game, which makes them a virtually impossible trio to stop.
Florida may be 7-3 ATS in its L/10 NCAA basketball betting duels with the Cats, but it was trounced at home earlier this year 89-77 by HC John Calipari’s team. The Gators do have some recent wins to their credit at Rupp Arena, winning there in both 2006 and 2007.
