Cowboys vs. Redskins Point Spread: Week 1 NFL Picks: September 12th 2010
DALLAS COWBOYS VS. WASHINGTON REDSKINS
NBC’s Sunday Night Football betting action begins with a stellar NFC East battle on Sunday, September 12th at 8:20 ET from FedEx Field in Washington D.C. where the Redskins will play host to the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys have won three of the L/4 meetings between these two teams. The Cowboys swept the season series a year ago winning the first game 7-6 as 11-point favorites and covering and winning the second game 17-0 as seven-point road chalk.
Point Spread: Head coach Mike Shanahan’s Redskins currently sit as 3.5-point home underdogs with the game ‘total’ set at 40.5.
Dallas comes into their 2010-11 campaign with high expectations after finishing 12-6 SU & 10-8 ATS last season ultimately getting beat by the Vikings in the Divisional Round of the Playoffs. With the addition of rookie WR Dez Bryant to an already star studded WR corps, this finally might be the year that Tony Romo and company get to the Super Bowl. RB’s Marion Barber and Felix Jones will pace the ground game again in 2010 for the 4th ranked rushing attack from a year ago.
The Redskins enter their season with a new QB running the offense. Ex-Eagle Donovan McNabb will lead an offense whose passing attack ranked 16th in 2009 and look to get the Redskins back to the playoffs. Unfortunately for him, WR Santana Moss and TE Chris Cooley are his only reliable options on an otherwise mediocre offense. RB’s Clinton Portis and Larry Johnson will share the load on the ground looking to improve a rushing attack that ranked 27th a year ago.
Trends for this Sunday night battle are as follows: Each of the L/3 games in the series have been played to the ‘Under’. In the L/2 years as a road favorite of 3.5 to seven points, the Cowboys are 4-1 SU & have won three of five ATS. In September games played during that span, they’ve won six of eight SU while posting a 5-3 mark against the closing NFL spreads. Dallas is 20-9 SU & 16-13 ATS the L/29 times it was favored. Washington’s been dreadful as an underdog winning only five of the L/20 times while managing a 9-9-2 record ATS.
