Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants Picks & Odds: January 13th, 2008

DALLAS COWBOYS VS. NY GIANTS PICKS AND ODDSWhile the Cowboys would have New York think that wide receiver Terrell Owens might be too injured to play this weekend, anyone who has ever bet on football knows that TO is, without doubt, going to play on Sunday. Owens could have spent the past three weeks learning to walk on fire and hunt tigers with only a knife, while living on a diet of insects in a small village in the middle of the desert in India, then hopped a late flight (which he could be on right now) back to America only to hop a taxi directly to the stadium just before kick off, and he would still be on the field for the first offensive play of this divisional playoff game. As the BetUS sportsbook oddsmakers have declared by making the Cowboys 7.5-point home favorites on the NFL betting line for this game, Dallas isn’t fooling anyone.

The Cowboys running game is led by classy “backup” Marion Barber, who will finally get the starting job next year when the Cowboys realize they have no need to pay starting running back Julius Jones to stay with the team. Barber has attitude and runs hard, often taking opposing defensive players with him as he rumbles down the field. There are not many backs in the league who seek out hits like a heat-seeking missile, but Barber is just that. With his huge offensive line providing the holes and blocks the Cowboys running game can wear defenses down. Against the smart, tough defense of the Giants, the Cowboys will likely employ tight ends Anthony Fasano and Jason Witten to help with the blocking game. Witten, as well, has become one of, if not the, elite catching tight end in the NFL and his performances in some games this season have been the main reason why the Cowboys tied a franchise record with 13 regular season victories.

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is living a charmed life and might even have forgotten about his last play in a playoff game, when he dropped the ball and lost the game in Seattle last year. Of course, there is no way he has not thought about that play at least four thousand times in the past 72 hours, but he has shown the ability to push bad things out of his mind during games and he will be primed and ready for the national stage. His job could be made easier than usual this week, as receiver Terry Glenn could see some action. Anything that could take even a bit of pressure off Terrell Owens as he returns from injury should help propel the Cowboys to their first playoff win in eleven years in convincing fashion.
