Denver Nuggets +8.5 (-110)

The Hornets come into tonight’s game sporting the Western Conference’s best record at 31-12 SU (72%), and they’ll look to keep their 8-game winning streak intact this evening when they welcome in the Denver Nuggets. Last we saw the Hornets, they went into San Antonio and dished out one of the worst beatings the Spurs have absorbed in the Timmy Duncan era. David West was simply a man amongst boys in that game. He rattled home 32 points and 7 boards, and was the main reason why the Hornets went on to win by a 102-78 final count ultimately winning SU as 5.5-point road pups.

As for the Nuggets, they dropped a tough one in Dallas last night 90-85. Their defense played superb, but it suffered back-to-back brain freezes late in the game when it left Dirk Nowitzki wide open for a pair of 3-point conversions that sealed their fate. The word on the street is that Carmelo will give it a go tonight, and the reacquisition of his offense into Denver’s attack will only help their cause. Their “D” has been surprisingly been quite impressive with him out, so the team has to be stoked about its chances of picking up a win here with him back in the line-up.

This is the rubber match of their regular season meetings this year. Denver hosted the prior two and went 1-1 SU but failed to cover both ATS. It almost seems to easy to back the Hornets in this spot as everything seems to be going their way of late. Sure, you make your own breaks but this good fortune is bound to catch up to them at some point. Why not now after a huge win at the Spurs? Is this how you spell L-E-T-D-O-W-N? This is an awful lot of points to be giving Denver in this spot especially if Carmelo does indeed give it a go. Look for the Nuggets to continue its fine defensive play and give the much-hyped Hornets a run for their money tonight….
