Line Movement
We have seen a little bit of line movement as Miami opened at -4 and is up to -5 and -5.5 in other places. We have also seen the spotting of a -6 but that very well could not be the case for long. The total has remained steady at 54.
Injuries
There are no major injuries for Georgia Tech but Miami is dealing with a lot of injuries that could keep some players out. However none of those players are projected starters with the exception of wide receiver Aldarius Johnson who is questionable with a hamstring injury. The good news is that Miami will be getting back three starters on defense as cornerback Ryan Hill, safety Vaughn Telemaque and defensive end Eric Moncur are all expected back after missing the Florida St. game.
Weather
As is typical this time of year, it will be hot and rather humid with a chance of a thunderstorm. The high be around 83 degrees at gametime.
Miami’s Newfound Passing Attack
Jacory Harris had a breakout game against Florida St. as he was 21-34 for 386 yards and two touchdowns. He did toss two interceptions but he looked very comfortable and he showed that he does have a very solid arm. The key for him this week will be protection. He was only sacked once against the Seminoles but the quarterback depth is very thin behind Harris so they will need to keep him upright again. The Yellow Jackets have six sacks so far this season. Also it should be noted that Miami is 0-7 ATS after throwing for 375 or more passing yards in its last game since 1992.
Yellow Jackets Ground Game
The Yellow Jackets racked up 472 rushing yards against Miami last year which was the second most ever allowed by the Hurricanes. They are coming off last Thursday’s game against Clemson where they rushed for 301 yards on 49 carries (6.1 ypc) but take that one 82-yard touchdown run out and the line falls to 219 yards on 48 carries (4.6 ypc). Georgia Tech also had runs of 32 and 23 yards so for the most part, Clemson did a really good job against the run. Miami allowed just 109 yards on 30 carries (3.6 ypc) against Florida St. so it may be more up to the task this season.
Time Off
Georgia Tech played last Thursday so at least it is not working on a short week but Miami has had two weeks to get ready for this one. That is even more important considering the complex offense that it will be facing. “It’s a big benefit because you get the opportunity to practice more than two to three days on an offense that’s unusual to most teams you face throughout the country,” Miami head coach Randy Shannon said. That will definitely help in the preparation of the Hurricanes and that extra time is much more beneficial than playing on a regular week schedule.
Flu Bug Hits Home
There is concern of a flue bug going through the Miami team as three players are on the injury list with an undisclosed illness. Only one of those is a starter, safety Jojo Nicolas, so it should not be a significant issue. The Yellow Jackets have had trouble throwing the ball since the new offense was installed and it definitely showed last week as quarterback Josh Nesbitt was just 3-14 for 83 yards and two interceptions. Therefore the loss a player in the secondary would be more vital is playing a different opponent.
