NBA Picks: Washington Wizards vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Odds: January 13th 2011
I realize that the Washington Wizards are the only team in the league without a road win this season. This team is obviously motivated to get that first road victory out of the way, and I believe their best chance of accomplishing it comes tonight against the Minnesota Timberwolves. These are two very evenly matched teams with Washington at 10-26 and Minnesota at 9-30 this season. I believe the Wizards have more talent though, and they certainly will have an advantage tonight considering Michael Beasley is doubtful with a sprained ankle for the Timberwolves. Minnesota simply cannot make up for the 20.9 PPG and 5.8 RPG Beasley brings to the floor.
Washington has owned the Minnesota Timberwolves dating back to 2006. The Wizards are 7-2 SU & 8-1 ATS in their last nine meetings in this series. The Timberwolves have lost five straight games overall and another loss tonight would give them their fourth losing streak of at least six games this season. Minnesota is 29-51 ATS in home games after playing a game as an underdog over the last 3 seasons. Washington has won two of their last three games and are starting to play much better basketball as the season wares on. All five starters scored in double-figures in their 136-133 win over Sacramento last time out, including a 43-point effort from Nick Young. The Timberwolves are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games as a home favorite of 0.5-4.5. Washington gets their first road win of the season tonight against the Beasley-less Timberwolves. Take the Wizards Thursday.
