Themes of payback and postseason play will dominate Saturday afternoon’s college basketball betting showdown between the Michigan Wolverines (13-14, 11-12 ATS) and the Ohio State Buckeyes (22-7, 15-14 ATS). The payback is the motto for the Bucks, who lost in Ann Arbor by nine points back in the beginning of January. Postseason play is for both teams. Ohio State’s chances of grabbing a #1 seed in the dance are basically shot, but it can still get up to the #2 line with a solid end of the regular season and a nice run in the Big Ten Tournament. Michigan needs at least two more wins just to qualify for the NIT.
Michigan’s offense has had some atrocious games of late. Its most recent loss was suffered at the hands of the Illini by the count of 51-44. It was the third time in their L/10 games that the Wolverines failed to score even 50 points. Big Blue has averaged just 56.5 points per game in its L/10 as well. Don’t blame G Manny Harris for the struggles. He has accounted for 16.2 points per game in that stretch. F DeShawn Sims has scored at least 19 points in six of the ten as well.
The most intriguing part about this battle against Michigan is that F Evan Turner will be back in the lineup after missing the first meeting of these two Big Ten betting rivals. If you look up the term “freakish athlete” in the dictionary, you get a picture of the big man in red. Turner is averaging 19.7 points, 9.2 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. He is largely accepted as the potential #1 overall pick in next year’s NBA Draft, and he is clearly what makes the Buckeyes go.
Ohio State had gone 6-2-1 ATS in its previous nine encounters with its arch rivals before that bad loss in Ann Arbor on January 3rd. The Wolverines are only 1-4-1 ATS in their L/6 trips to Columbus. Ohio State is a solid 4-1 ATS in its L/5 games in conference play, while Michigan is only 1-5 ATS in its L/6 overall. However, the visitors are 5-1 ATS in their L/6 road games against teams with home winning percentages of at least .600.
