New Orleans Hornets @ Sacramento Kings
The Hornets are playing their fifth game in seven days, and both teams are taking part in the second leg of back-to-back scheduling. The Hornets have had little success in Sacramento, and tonight’s third road affair, in four nights, offers them little advantage – defensively. Both teams have the offense to score and score quickly, and both are more than capable of registering 30 point quarters.
Though the Hornets have the best record in the Western Conference, they haven’t won their division title and twice in four days they’ve watched a conference foe (Utah and LA) clinch theirs. The loss to the Lakers was just the third in the 43 games in which the Hornets have scored 100 or more points (key trend for tonight’s play). A 112-103 setback in Sacramento in the first week of February was one of those contests. The other loss came two days prior to the one against the Kings, when Golden State took the victory, 116-103, in the New Orleans Arena. The Hornets defense was sub par in these contests, and both losses, and 100 point giveaways, came during a stretch where the team was playing three games over the course of five days.
The Kings are giving up on average, to much lesser teams, 108 points in the second game of back-to-backs. Tonight, the tired Hornets are playing the second game of a back-to-back for the third time in April, each one a road contest. In the final week of the NBA regular season schedule, this is a demanding pace, and a situation that has historically and statistically been commanded by more offense, and less defense.
The OVER is 7-3 in NO last 10 road games; and the Kings have played OVER the total 24-9-1 in their last 34 vs. NBA Southwest.
The Play: OVER the total in a late Saturday night NBA game that matters!
