Kick off your Saturday in the NCAA basketball betting world with a great Big East battle with NCAA Tournament implications all over the place. The Georgetown Hoyas (19-7, 12-10 ATS) are still clinging on to slender hopes of capturing a #1 or #2 seed in the dance and are coming off of a very important 70-60 win at Freedom Hall against the Cardinals on Tuesday night. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish (18-10, 11-10-1 ATS) looked to be left for dead a few weeks ago, but a dominant win over Pittsburgh sent them right back into the middle of all of the March Madness. Those two will square off on Saturday afternoon at the Verizon Center in our nation’s capitol.
What made Notre Dame’s win so impressive is the fact that it came without F Luke Harangody in the lineup. The All-American is listed as doubtful for Saturday’s huge clash at G’Town. If Harangody can’t go, that’s going to pour even more pressure on the shoulders of F Tim Abromaitis. He is shooting 53.2% from the floor and a whopping 49.4% from downtown this season, averaging 17.3 points per game. It’s a far cry from Harangody’s 24.1, but is still good enough to easily be second on the team.
It’s a real shame that Notre Dame’s best player probably won’t be in the lineup. He and C Greg Monroe could’ve put on quite the show in the low post. Monroe is averaging 15.7 points and 9.6 rebounds per game this year, and he is coming off of a big double-double with 16 points and 14 boards against the Cards. That win at Louisville marked the first time since January 23rd that the Hoyas have held an opponent under 70 points for a game.
Traditionally, this is a series that is dominated by the home teams. The Irish won last season’s one basketball betting bash against Georgetown in South Bend 73-67. The hosts have covered four of the L/5. Even though the Hoyas are fresh off of that ATS win in conference, they are a dismal 10-23 ATS in their L/33 Big East battles.
