Oregon State vs. UCLA Picks & Odds: February 21st
Free Sports Picks, NCAA Basketball Picks February 21st, 2008Oregon State Beavers (+ 27) vs. UCLA Bruins (- 27) Pick & Odds
The UCLA Bruins actually beat the Oregon State Beavers by 23 points the last time these two teams met. That was up in Oregon. This game is down here in L.A. I suppose that’s why the Bruins are favored by four more points in this one. Interesting to me because the number 27 sure looks a lot larger to me than the number 23. My eyes are playing tricks on me sang the Ghetto Boys! Anyhow, against the BetUS spread the Bruins have been really good going 7 and 3 in their last 10 games. The Oregon State has been horrible against the BetUS spread going 3-7-1 in their last 11. But, man, that 27 points looks like a big number!
Here are more trends:
The Oregon State Beavers are 5-1-1 against the spread in their last 7 games as a road underdog of at least 13.5 points or more.
The UCLA Bruins are 6 and 1 against the spread in their last 7 games versus a rival team from the Pac-10.
The UCLA Bruins are 4 and 1 against the spread in their last 5 games following an against the spread win.
The FAVORITE is 6 and 0 against the spread in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
The last time these two teams met the BetUS spread was around 16 points in favor of the UCLA Bruins. I don’t see why the spread should have jumped to a ridiculous 27 points. This is a Pac-10 game. Granted the Oregon State Beavers are the worst team in the Pac-10 but we’re still talking about two teams in a power conference battling it out tonight in Westwood.
The problem I have with the BetUS line is that 27 points is a number that a team has to shoot for. Great teams like UCLA can play okay and luck their way to a 20 point win, but getting that extra 7 is tough. Oregon State pretty much has to lay down and just take it in the rear to lose by 27 or more points to UCLA.
I don’t see that happening. This is an easy call for me because the Bruins will win, but they will win by probably around 15 or 20 points. That 7 point cushion is awfully nice on a Pac-10 game
