Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys Picks & Odds: December 16th, 2007

December 16th, 2007

The Eagles had every chance in their game last week to beat the New York Giants. Unfortunately, they came up short in a very close game, decided by a field goal, between two teams that played great defense.

I have the feeling that the same thing may happen this weekend. I am not at all sold on the Cowboys defense. In fact, I believe that should either the Redskins or the Vikings grab that final wild-card spot, the Cowboys may be in trouble in the second round of the play-offs. The Vikings, for sure, have a terrific shot at beating either The Seahawks or the Buccaneers in the first-round. That would make the Cowboys second-round match-up very difficult.

In any case, the Cowboys looked like Swiss-cheese versus the Detroit Lions offense last week. The Lions were without star wide-receiver Roy Williams so the Boys looking as bad as they did wasn’t a sign of the Lions just tearing stuff up.

Here are some trends that may or may not make a difference in this game:
The OVER is 9-4-1 in the Philadelphia Eagles’ last 14 road games.
The OVER is 7-1-1 in the Dallas Cowboys’ last 9 road games.
The Philadelphia Eagles are 4 and 2 against the spread in their 6 games on the road so far this year.

What this looks like to me is that the Philadelphia Eagles should come out and play a fairly good game versus the Dallas Cowboys. In my mind, the fact that Dallas has given up 27 points in their last two games is not a good sign. The Eagles should find ways to exploit that Dallas D the same way they found ways to exploit that Patriots’ D a few weeks ago.

The Eagles have the running back that can soften up that Dallas pass-rush. If that happens, then Donovan McNabb should find his tight-end and wide receivers on cutting routes. If Eagles’ coach Andy Reid comes up with the right game-plan, then I believe that the Eagles have a chance of actually winning this game outright.

In any case, the Eagles should keep it within that 11.5 point spread.

I like the Eagles to beat the spread and maybe even win this one outright. The Cowboys are due to let one of these close games slip through their fingers. Why not against a hated rival?
