Point Spread: Alabama Crimson Tide (+1) vs. Louisiana State Tigers (-1) Over/Under 39.5

This year’s BCS title game represents a wave of mixed emotions from fans and betting enthusiasts alike after the teams met in Alabama on Nov. 5. That day, the Tigers recorded a thrilling 9-6 win in overtime while covering the NCAAF betting spread with room to spare as a 5.5-point road favorite.

Still, many fans, collegiate gridiron betting buffs and a host of other NCAA pundits are split on whether this game should even be played again, particularly with Oklahoma State closing out the regular season with a finishing flurry of wins that many thought should have catapulted them into the national title game.

Still, this game is going to be a rematch for the ages – and collegiate gridiron gamblers need to get as much betting information as they can so here we go, starting with the top-raked Tigers.

LSU Tigers (13-0 SU, 10-3 ATS, 7-5-1 O/U)
The Tigers looked like the best team in the country from the start of the regular season to the finish and recorded a solid 8-4 ATS mark to go along with their phenomenal 13-0 SU mark. More importantly, the Tigers closed out the season by cashing in for their betting backers in three straight games and seven of their L/8 games overall.

The Tigers averaged a stellar 38.5 points per game this season (12th) while allowing just 10.5 points per contest defensively, good for second in the nation. LSU averages a whopping 217.8 yards per game on the ground and gets just enough passing from senior quarterback Jarrett Lee (13 TDs, 3 INTs) in order to keep the defense honest. LSU split the rushing load this season between its gifted trio of sophomore backs, Michael Ford (755 yds, 7 TDs), Spencer Ware (700 yds, 8 TDs) and Alfred Blue (539 yds, 7TDs) with freshman Kenny Hilliard also rushing for eight scores on the season.

Here is a look at some of the Tigers’ Key ATS and O/U Trends.

The Tigers are 8-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
The Tigers are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games as a favorite.
LSU is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 bowl games.
Tigers are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 neutral site games.
LSU is 10-3-1 ATS in their last 14 games as a favorite of 3.0 points or less.
The Over is 4-0 in Tigers last 4 neutral site games.
The Over is 5-1-1 in Tigers last 7 games as a favorite.

Alabama Crimson Tide (11-1 SU, 8-4 ATS, 6-6 O/U)
Were it not for their loss to LSU this season and the Crimson Tide would have finished with a perfect record – and many see their 9-6 overtime loss to the Tigers as something the team can undoubtedly correct by winning this BCS title tilt.

Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide finished 16th in the nation in scoring (36.0 ppg) thanks mostly to their overpowering rushing attack (219.8 ypg) which is led by talented junior Trent Richardson. The explosive Heisman Trophy finalist finished with a whopping 1,583 yards and 23 scores on the ground, not to mention another 327 yards in receptions.

Sophomore quarterback A.J. McCarron didn’t have to do a whole lot this season behind his run-first offense, but was solid with 16 TD passes and just five interceptions on the season.

Defensively, the Crimson Tide had a season for the ages as they finished No. 1 across the board in every significant defensive statistical category there is. Alabama held its opponents to a paltry 8.8 points per game this season, while also finishing first against the run (74.9 ypg) and pass (116.3 ypg).

Here is a look at some of Alabama’s more revealing Key Trends this season.

The Crimson Tide are 4-0 ATS in their last four neutral site games.
Alabama is 6-2 ATS in its L/8 games versus a team with a winning record.
The Crimson Tide are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games overall.
The Over is 5-0 in Alabama’s last five Bowl games.
The Over is 5-0 in the Crimson Tide’s last five neutral site games.
The Under is 11-5 in the Crimson Tide’s last 16 against a team with a winning record.
The Under is 21-10-1 in Alabama’s L/32 games against conference opponents.

Key Head-to-Head Trend
Alabama is 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings against LSU.
