It’s no surprise to see the Blue Devils in the Sweet 16 as this team has lost one game all season with Ryan Kelly in the lineup. I’m a big believer in this team and the 2nd half dominance they showed over Creighton will carry over to their matchup against the Spartans. Not to take anything away from Michigan State, but this is a difficult matchup for the Spartans. Michigan State doesn’t defend the 3-point shot well and offensively could struggle with Duke’s interior defense making it hard for Nix and Payne to get easy looks. The Big Ten started to show they might not be all their made out to be, as Ohio State barely held on to beat Arizona and the Hoosier got rolled by Syracuse. Pick: Michigan State -2.5
The Buckeyes just knocked Michigan from the unbeaten. They have struggled when stepping up in class away from home with losses to Duke and Illinois. Buckeyes are a good rebounding team as are the Spartans, which negates a usual Ohio State edge. Michigan State prefers to play a grinding type of contest beating you on the boards and playing excellent defense. The Spartans are a perfect 11-0 SU at home. Spartans had two players involved in a fight Wednesday and neither started against Penn State, yet they were able to gain the victory. -Bryan Leonard

Pick: Georgetown -2.5
On Saturday the free NCAAB Play is on Georgetown. Game 509 at 6:00 eastern. The Hoyas are reasonably priced here and just missed unit rated statue here tonight. Georgetown has been solid the last few years against team who struggle to score as they have won 42 of the last 48 vs teams who score less than 65 points per game. They have won 7 of the 8 times they have been favored and have a solid RPI ranking at #58. South Florida is ranked a decent #98 in the RPI. However they are 0-5 this season vs teams ranked in the top 100 RPI. They are also a lousy 2-8 off 3+ losses and have struggled in conference play going 0-4 with 1 spread win. San Diego has been playing well lately winning five straight games and four straight against the spread. They are 4-0 in the West Coast conference and now they play BYU in a good spot. The Cougars are coming off a tough one point loss at home against St. Mary’s and will be traveling to Gonzaga next to take on the Zags. The Toreros have a veteran group who remembers the 36 point beating they took in Provo and the 19 point loss at home from last year. The team then played BYU tough in the conference tournament, only losing by five. I think they will use that experience to play the Cougars tough again today. Wisconsin won at Indiana last game but largely hasn’t been the same team away from home where it lost by double digits to Florida, Creighton and Marquette and struggled to beat Nebraska. Plus, that big win sets the Badgers up for a letdown. Iowa is 9-2 at home with those losses coming to Indiana and Michigan State by narrow margins. The Hawkeyes gave Wisconsin problems last season with their uptempo style and won both meetings. College Basketball Prediction: Michigan State +3.5 (November 13th 2012)

5* graded play on the Michigan State Spartans as they take on Kansas in the State Farm Champions Classic in Atlanta set to start at 7:30 PM ET. The simulator shows a high probability that MSU will lose this game by three or fewer points and has an excellent shot at defeating Kansas. MSU enters this game ranked 21st in the nation and while Kansas, again, is a Top-10 ranked team positioned at seventh. MSU had a horrid start in their 67-62 loss to UCONN Friday. The Kansas offense has the 7-footer Jeff Withey, who is an elite player, but will need far better shooting from the perimeter to be effective in the paint. MSU has a torrid defensive scheme and have the physicality to make things very difficult in the post for Withey. Kansas was led by Elijah Johnson, who had made 69 3-pointers last season, but was 0-for-4 in the Kansas 75-55 win over Southeast Missouri State. I strongly believe that the speed and quickness of the MSU defense will be a dominant force in giving the Spartans the win tonight. MSU has an edge in the rebounding department as well and the sim shows that MSU will have between 9 and 13 offensive boards. In past games, MSU is a solid 11-3 ATS when they grab 9 to 13 offensive rebounds in a game over the last two seasons. Spartan head coach Izzo is a remarkable 21-7 ATS as a neutral court underdog of 6 points or less and 11-3 ATS (+7.7 Units) as a neutral court underdog of 3 points or less or pick.
