The Detroit Tigers have a massive edge on the mound Saturday. They should be a much heavier favorite as a result. I’ll gladly take advantage by backing them at an excellent price tonight.

Anibal Sanchez gets the ball for Detroit looking to continue his Cy Young-caliber 2013 campaign. He has gone 4-3 with a 2.05 ERA with 66 strikeouts over 52 2/3 innings this year. He has also posted a 1.82 ERA through four road starts.

Justin Grimm is 2-3 with a 4.28 ERA and 1.485 WHIP through six starts for Texas. He has really been knocked around the yard of late, going 0-3 with a 7.02 ERA and 1.800 WHIP in his last three starts.

The Tigers are 12-4 in their last 16 games vs. a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30. The Rangers are 3-10 in their last 13 games as a home underdog of +110 to +150. Bet the Tigers Saturday.

I’m siding with the Texas Rangers on the Run Line Friday as they beat the Houston Astros by two-plus runs. They have a massive edge on the mound in this one, which will lead to a blowout victory.

Alexi Ogando has been brilliant in his move from the bullpen to the rotation this year. The right-hander is 3-2 with a 3.08 ERA and 1.263 WHIP through seven starts. One of those starts came against Houston on April 3rd as Ogando pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings while striking out 10 in a 4-0 Texas victory.

Dallas Keuchel is no more than a spot starter in this league. He’s getting his first start of the season tonight after struggling in the bullpen up to this point. Kuechel has posted a 4.96 ERA and 1.840 WHIP while allowing 13 runs, 9 earned, and 30 base runners over 16 1/3 innings out of the ‘pen in 2013.

Houston is 1-15 (-12.9 Units) against the money line when playing against a team with a winning record this season. It is losing in this spot 3.2 to 7.2, or by an average of 4.0 runs/game. Enough said. Bet the Rangers on the Run Line.

Baseball Picks: Look for John Lackey to dominate the Red Sox on May 4th 2013

The Rangers welcomed the Red Sox to Texas in Game 1, by opening up a can of old fashioned butt whuppin’. With John Lackey on the mound tonight in Game 2, we might expect a lot more of the same.

Lackey (1-1, 2.61 ERA) appears to have had a successful return from Tommy John surgery. Let’s have a look at that though, his only victory came against the Astros, who sit firmly planted in the AL West cellar. His other start was a loss to the AL East cellar rats, the Toronto Blue Jays. Needless to say, facing the Rangers in Arlington is a whole different kettle of fish.

The Rangers will hand the ball to Alexi Ogando, who has gone three starts without a win. He didn’t get much in the way of run support in those games though, and for the most part he was solid. He’s only had one previous start at home, and the Rangers won that game 5-4 over the Rays.

Ian Kinsler will be one player to watch tonight, he’s rocked Boston pitching, hitting .417 over his last 10 against the Red Sox. He’s having a great season so far, currently on a nine game hit streak, and leading the team in average as well as hits.

Take the Rangers.

Free MLB baseball pick from Doc’s Sports Take #927 Texas Rangers over Los Angeles Angels (10:05pm ET) Just when it felt like the Los Angeles Angels were turning things around, they suffered a devastating loss to their division rivals the Texas Rangers last night. The Angels led 6-3 in the top of the 7th inning, when the Rangers tied it up and later won it in the 9th inning. It’s the kind of loss that sticks with you and will be hard to shake off today. At 7-11, the Angels haven’t been living up to expectations and the problems have been just about everywhere. The offense has been mediocre, the starting pitching subpar and the bullpen has just been a mess. Today they’ll get a look at Alexi Ogando, who is 2-1 with a 3.32 ERA on the young season. He was moved into the rotation from the bullpen and I think it was a good move for Texas. Ogando knows how to pitch and has tons of upside. He should keep his ERA in the 3’s all season long and be a stalwart in this rotation. The Angels counter with left-hander Jason Vargas. The 30-year old came over from Seattle in an offseason trade, but has had trouble adjusting to his new surroundings. He’s 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA and 2.32 WHIP and is walking nearly as many batters as he’s striking out. Vargas was never thought of as a good pitcher throughout baseball, but the Angels may have been a little bit fooled by his decent numbers in Seattle because of the ballpark dimensions. The Rangers are off to a hot start at 13-6 and the Angels are not. While I think this Angels team will be a lot better as the season goes on, this just seems like a huge mismatch at this point in the season. Take the Rangers here.

These two teams have played 13 of 19 games Over the total in Arlington, and we expect that trend to continue on Friday afternoon.

There are many storylines to the matchup between the Rangers and Angels on Friday afternoon. Josh Hamilton returns to Texas in a Los Angeles uniform and Jason Vargas stayed in the division to join the Angels. The southpaw went 1-2 with a 5.04 ERA in four starts against the Rangers last season. He’s also coming off a rough Spring as he allowed 19 runs and 30 hits in just over 22 innings. Texas averaged 4.3 runs per game in their series against the Astros and they are hitting .262 early this season.

Derek Holland goes for the home team and he’s been torched by the Angels in his career. He is 7-5 with a 5.58 ERA in 13 starts against Los Angeles. He gave up 21 earned runs in 27 innings pitched against the Halos last year. Erick Aybar (11-35), Alberto Callaspo (11-31), Howard Kendrick (12-38), Albert Pujols (6-13), Mike Trout (5-14) and Mark Trumbo (8-25) all have had success against the Rangers starter. They will be glad to have a full complement of players for this game as they had to scrap the DH in Cincinnati for the first series of the season. These two teams have played 13 of 19 games Over the total in Arlington, and we expect that trend to continue on Friday afternoon.

MLB Pick: Texas Rangers -1.5 -109
Houston is a team that is bound to lose 100 games for the third consecutive season. They pulled off a surprising win last night but their luck has run out already when they face off against Yu Darvish today. Darvish finished 2012 with a 16-9 record and a 3.90 ERA. The Rangers have high hopes for an even better 2013 from Darvish as this young pitcher games more experience.

Houston is 19-62 when playing as an underdog of +150 or more. Texas should be able to take batting practice against the horrible Houston bullpen and they should not have any problems getting runs on the board against Lucas Harrel who finished 2012 with an 11-11 record in 32 starts. If Harrell doesn’t blow this game the Astros bullpen will making the Rangers on the run line a value play. -Jimmy Boyd

MLB Pick: St. Louis Cardinals +112
The Cardinals are showing value in the underdog role with Jaime Garcia on the hill. Dating back to last season, the Cards have won each of the southpaws last 4 starts. It is also worth noting that he is 2-0 lifetime against Arizona with an ERA of 2.45. The Red Birds dropped the first game of the series but are 8-3 in their last 11 games following a loss and have still won 7 of the last 9 meetings, including 4 of the last 5 in Arizona. Take St. Louis. -Dave Price

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Texas Rangers
Pick: Tampa Bay Rays -110 odds (August 27th 2012)
CLICK HERE FOR JACK JONES’ EXPERT PICKS

The Tampa Bay Rays are showing solid value as a small road favorite over the Texas Rangers tonight. The Rays have a huge edge on the mound in this one, which is the main reason for this selection.

David Price is putting up AL Cy Young-worthy numbers in 2012. The left-hander is 16-4 with a 2.28 ERA and 1.017 WHIP in 25 starts this season. Price has won eight consecutive decisions since June 13th, and he’s 2-0 with a 0.60 ERA in his last four starts, giving up just two earned runs over 30 innings.

Derek Holland is 8-6 with a 4.92 ERA over 20 starts and one relief appearance for Texas. The left-hander is also 4-4 with a 5.50 ERA in 11 home starts this season. Holland sports a 5.90 ERA and 1.613 WHIP in seven career starts against Tampa Bay as well.

Price is 13-2 against the money line after 2 or more consecutive team losses over the last 2 seasons. The Rays are 5-0 in their last 5 road games vs. a left-handed starter. Tampa is 7-0 in its last 7 during game 1 of a series. The Rays are 17-4 in Price’s last 21 starts as a road favorite of -110 to -150. Bet Tampa Bay Monday.

Detroit Tigers vs. Texas Rangers
Pick: Detroit Tigers -136
CLICK HERE FOR JIMMY BOYD’S EXPERT PICKS

The Tigers, who have won 7 of 9 overall, are showing value at this price with ace Justin Verlander on the hill. The Tigers are 37-14 in Verlander’s last 51 starts and 17-8 in his last 25 road starts. Plus, he has had the Rangers’ number.

The reigning AL MVP is 8-3 (9-3 on the money line) with an ERA of 2.62 in 12 career starts against Texas. He gave up no earned runs and only 4 hits in a victory over the Rangers earlier this season.

Texas’ Derek Holland, who has a 5.18 ERA on the season and a 6.35 ERA in 3 career starts versus Detroit, doesn’t inspire the same confidence. The Rangers are just 2-14 in Holland’s last 16 starts as an underdog of +110 to +150. Take the Tigers.
