Teams that are ranked in the back end of the Top-25 should engage in a Lone Star State sized shootout in an in-state basketball wagering war on Saturday afternoon when the Baylor Bears (23-6, 14-8 ATS) duel with the Texas Longhorns (23-7, 10-16 ATS). The Horns hooked the Sooners 87-76 in their most recent game, which guaranteed an above-.500 finish to a conference schedule that has been rather disappointing. Baylor has put itself in a position to gain a first round bye in the Big XII Tournament next week after wins in three straight and six out of seven.
It’s hard to believe that Texas is just 5-7 SU since starting out the year at 18-0. This team continues to score points at will, but it has games like in that loss at Texas A&M when the offense just mentally checks out. Still, an 81.8 points per game average is fantastic. Leading scorer F Damion James is putting up 17.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per game but, just like most of the other Longhorns in the lineup, he is struggling from the free throw line. Texas is only shooting 62.7% as a team from the charity stripe on the season.
If you’re a Baylor fan, you’ve got love the way that your team is playing on the offensive end of the court. The Bears are shooting 48.4% from the field as a team and 39.4% from beyond the arc, both of which rank them in the Top-20 in the nation. Compare that to the 37.8% that opposing teams are shooting this year against them, and the recipe is ripe for a ton of blowouts. G LaceDarius Dunn had scored at least 20 points in three of his previous four before putting up a dud of a nine point showing against Texas Tech in Lubbock. Still, an 18 point effort from G Tweety Carter was more than enough to help propel Baylor to yet another win.
It’s hard to ignore the fact that the Longhorns are just 1-9 ATS on the road this season. Baylor already has a college basketball betting victory over Texas to its credit this year, winning in overtime in Austin at the end of January.
